I just wondered what everyones thoughts are on it. Does Blue Ray matter and does only having standard DVD capacity hurt Microsoft?

My personal thoughts MS will release larger capacity hard drives to compensate for any lack of space on regular DVD (Tomshardware just reviewed a half a terrabyte drive and I figure a few years down the road the buyable 360 HD will grow in size)

A lot of current titles fill the DVD's with protection and padding.

As for PS3 if it doesnt get a HD then the Blue Ray discs will guarantee plenty of storage space for the games.

How is having a larger hard drive going to give the Xbox DVDs more capacity?

Installing games after a purchase = more annoying than a torturial.

And a later release "huger" HD for the Xbox 360 would just be annoying when you'd have to make up some magical trick to transfer all you data to the huger one when you decide to replace the old HD.

And it's really bad for MS that the 360 has a horrible drive at the moment + that it doesn't support any "next-gen" format.

There are already developer complains about lack of media space and there are probably several games in development that already unfortunatly have had to suffer the fate of going multi-disc.

It wont I just figured they would compress and have installs of at least parts of the game on the HD.

As for multidisk stuff I guess it never really bothered me on the ps so it shouldnt really on the 360.

But im also going to say this about blue ray if its like anything else sony has made then im avoiding it like the plague early on cause all the 1st ps3s will probably end up with bad lasers. Ive already went through that with both the ps and ps2.

Depending on the game type and length, I'd say multiple discs is in some cases = bad.

There are lots of reasons to avoid it, both for the purchaser of the product and the producer/publisher.

While space is a factor in the BRD vs HD-DVD debate, the main debate is content protection. HD-DVD's content protection scheme is more consumer friendly. BRD is much more draconian and "fluid" when it comes to fair use rights.

PS - Has anyone read about the legislation to close the analog hole? I hear my rights being flushed down the toilet right now...

Call me old-fashioned, but I still fail to see how 9.4GB of space (assuming dual-layer DVD) is insufficient for a single game. Most of my complete ROM sets don't take up nearly that much.

It's an interesting question, I have no idea what they do to fill those discs...
(Sure sure, bigger textures, models, higher quality music and sound effects, FMVs... but those can be taken off the list for Next Gen atm if you ask me)

GC somehow does it perfectly fine with just 1,5gb (and the DS seems to go fine with it's 1gbits)

Yes its officially proposed to close it now. Companies dont even want fair use to exist for content they want people to rebuy if they break it and eventually they want us to never own it just pay per play.
