My fiance runs this site:

http://www.vidgame.net/

She almost watermarks every image she has up. Why?

1. Because she takes every pic herself. She's a professional photographer, mind you. And anything she rips off is... *gasp* credited.

2. She has already had her pics ripped off by both Gamestop and eBay.

So, yeah. Watermarking for ROM revenge is pretty stupid.

And it's done really tastefully. The watermarks don't obstruct the image, and she's not taking photos of anything that isn't otherwise obtainable, so she's not covering up something "exclusive." She's protecting her photography, not gloating.

Agreed. This perfectly illustrates the difference between "watermark" and "BIG RED BUTTERY STAMP OF EGOTISTICAL FATTIEDOM."

Glad to hear that. I look forward to seeing what game this is.

Dunno if you're trying to be modest or what, but at one time your place was listed among the top 5000 most visited sites on the web by Alexa. A few years ago, you ranked higher than Something Awful.

Your front page link to theredeye.net was 98% of its readership.

Oh for the love of god, why does everything always degenerate into insanity about butter?

If you must know what it is, it's "Son of MULE", the sequel to MULE (a game I'm very fond of), and I was given the screens for a "MULE making of" feature I did. But none were used because... I don't know why they weren't used. The page layout was awful if you ask me, actually, but I didn't want them to go to waste so was debating putting them online.

I've not done so yet, because the guy who sent them, has never bothered to put them up himself, for what reason I don't know. But I didn't want to step on toes.

He might take a few days to get back to me (with his decision on watermarks), so can someone close this topic? At the very least I'll start a new one if I get the go ahead.

(btw: I lied when I said I'm not altruistic, since once the article is published I'll be putting some 5000 words of left-over transcribed interview, with members of the original team, online for free.)

I'm with the OP on this one, the butter thing is fucking old. But hey, maybe if we keep repeating it it will get funnier? huh guys?? all your baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase!

Son of M.U.L.E. is a hell of a game to cover, I'm honestly afraid to touch it. Did you talk to The Fat Man? He's crazy bastard, and the best game developer to ever buy me a beer.

Is there anyway I can trademark the yellow text usage for the word Butter? Like make a buttermark or something? I want FULL CREDIT for that one. That will boost my street cred by leaps and bounds.

Eh, I use "butter" sparingly. Seems like a good term for just fatty fanboy fuckery. But huge explosions of yellow text constantly, yeah, that is annoying.

I just woke up at 11pm, hung over. That'll teach me to accept my brother's offer to go drinking in the afternoon. The scoundrel.

Anyway, I got an email from the guy:
Quote:
I don't see why not - but please let me know exactly which sites you send the pictures to. I might not know them all yet and I myself am always interested in new rare stuff they might have.
Please also let them know that more information about the game will be available on my website in the coming few weeks. I'm off now for a two weeks New York vacation, and apart from sightseeing I intend to work on the World of MULE site overhaul. Smile

In which case I'd like this topic deleted (not just locked).

Images and info to come tomorow. In truth, I don't think the guy realises how exciting the unreleased SoM is.

Now if you'll excuse me gentlemen, I need to find my house and get some rest.

Oh man. If this isn't ironic I really, really don't know what is. Only ll staff will really know what I'm talking about, but jesus christ. From discussion of tagging images to editing boot screens to BUTTER, I mean, good lord. That's really all I've got to say.

Anyway, personal pet peeve. JSzczep, editing the post that starts a topic is like knocking over a boardgame when you're losing. It's just entirely uncool, and it makes me sad that there are people otherwise intelligent enough to make their argument (especially when they do get kinda prematurely jumped, I mean, I may not agree with your reasoning but at least yours was different than the usual and worth thinking about). But, oh well, I guess it's done.
