I'm finally going to actually _buy_ one of the Parodius series, having enjoyed them via piracy long enough. But all I've played are the FC/SFC versions. Including the Saturn and PSX games, which is the best version of Parodius?
Excluding the UK SNES release, because PAL makes baby Jesus cry.

Not that I know, but I've always liked the TG-16 version. The tg-16 has always been a good shooter system and Parodius was good, except for the fact that the damn clowns on the second level always piss me off.

Sexy Parodius for PSX is very good. Parodius DA! is excellent, but I've only played the arcade version of it. I hear the console versions have slowdown. (You can get it for MAME... I think SP as well.)

Did any other Parodius besides Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius include the crazy Japanese commentaries? Those really helped to increase the overall wackyness...

So you understand my post, I said Wai Wai World 2 because technically it's a Parodius game, since it mocks a lot of different franchises. It's even got a Gradius / Twinbee section, heh heh. But it's not in the series.

Anyway, the PAL versions of the Twinbee games have ALL story references removed, if I remember correctly. :\

Well, the PAL versions of Pop'n Twinbee and Rainbow Bell Adventures have translated intros (and presumably endings) but I hear some between-level text in RBA was cut.

Nope. Only Oshaberi had the commentaries. Hence the title (Oshaberi = Talking).

And you can turn it off, thank god. I'm currently thinking Oshaberi or Sexy for the PSX.
Ooh! I just noticed that Sexy's covered by Mame! I'll go check that out...
Are there any noticable differences between the PSX and Saturn versions of Sexy or Oshaberi? As much as I love my Saturn, I suck at keeping the battery working.

I mentioned Sexy was available for MAME, but I guess I should've put the full name instead of just SP. Sorry.

No differences that I know of on Sexy, other than the FMV might be a little better on PSX.

DURP!! I am a retarded. Thanks, though. I'm going to get Sexy, and signs point to PSX, as that's easier for me to play imports with. Here's where I have a heart attack as I see how much the game goes for... Hmm! Not as bad as I expected.

I don't know about MAME, probably not. Hm... It's been awhile since I've played it, actually... maybe Sexy doesn't have any story FMVs. I'm 99% sure it at LEAST has the "walking Konami logo" FMV though.

Guess what? It doesn't have any FMV. Everything's normal sprites. The GX System was powerful, but not -that- powerful.

At least not without a hard drive anyway.

Edit:
And no, it doesn't have that walking Konami logo either.

Oops! My mistake. I meant to specify, the PSX version should have the walking Konami logo FMV, not the arcade version. I just popped it in, and it does have that FMV, but everything else is indeed sprite-based.

Yeah, I nearly knew it wouldn't have any in the arcade, but sometimes they add FMV to the home conversions.

Well, I've got the PSX version of SP in my grubby little mitts. It plays fine, and doesn't have the stereotypical lousy PSX 2-Dness. Must be the dark magicks of Konami.
