This is very Lost Levels-worthy. I'm surprised I didn't post here much sooner.

You know how many folks have complained that the screenshot in the instruction book of Zelda 1 where Link can choose the sword or the boomerang doesn't exist? It was supposed by all that this was only in a beta version.

To make matters worse, the text is so blurred out in the book it is impossible to read.

Well, not only did new evidence (a video of the beta in action)prove that it was indeed the very first cave where this happens in the beta, but the text is even revealed!

The catch? It's blurry, and of course, in Japanese, but infinitely more readable

I figured out most of the characters, but I just can't figure out the second line.

I know the crack team of LLers can probably figure this one out because the DPers just aren't posting on it any more.

Contribute to that thread, says I! I've done all I can so far, so I leave it to LLers, the greatest of the game historians to crack this.

You rock, Chris! Thanks!

Could you post a literal English translation of the whole thing for the record? My japanese grammar is complete crap.

Man, after so many years it sure is awesome to have this tiny mystery solved.

I remember that pic. I remember slashing my sword everywhere in the first room trying to get that boomerange to show up.
