Mr. Splash
This is old news, but I'm just wondering if anybody has been able to locate copies of this game to buy and where to, about how many are in existence, what are some of the tech specs (mapper, etc...), and if it's been backed up? |

Is there a special story on the rarity of this cart I'm not aware of? Not sure I've ever heard of this game.

My understanding is that it's an ambitious/elaborately-packaged new homebrew FC game. Looks like fun. |

Assuming my memory isn't wonky at this hour, I believe the story behind Mr. Splash goes something like this:
A Japanese TV station commissions for a Famicom game to be developed for them, which would eventually become Mr. Splash. The game gets put up on display in some store, where it can be played for 15 minutes at 200 yen (a little under $2 US) per round. A tournament is eventually set up for the game where the grand prize is the game itself. Somebody wins said tournament and game. It then falls off the face of the earth, where people are left to ponder what happened to the game.
This was all relatively recently, too. I believe the tournament was held just last year, too. But if some of my fact are off, someone's free to correct me. This is all based off of a recollection of me researching the game several weeks ago for not very long at all. |

It looks like the cart is setting right in the machine. |

This DVD, Game Generation X, is the documentary of how it was made. Masanobu Endo basically coaches them on how to make a good, simple 8-bit game. But the host/narrator guy uses this incredibly grating, cartoony helium voice and it ruins me.

This NESdev thread has a lot more information about Mr. Splash.
Please turn on your jargon filter. Disregard any and all posts by him. Fail to heed? Waste your time. |

That's pretty awesome, bundling the DVD with chips and board to be soldered. Also it brings the likelyhood of a ROM release of this game MUCH closer to a reality. |
