Does anybody have any information on the game Corn Buster for the SNES? I've played it, there's a review of it on Youtube (Which I requested), and the ROM is readily available, but otherwise there is literally no information on it. I'm not even sure if it was released or not.
All I know for sure is that the game was made by Engine Software and that it's in PAL format. Surprisingly, Engine Software still exists, and have made everything from "Suite Life of Zack and Cody" on the DS to an unreleased GBA version of the Xbox game Xyanide. To my surprise, they still use the game's main character, Globey, to this very day.
Any further information on the game would be much appreciated! |

Oh, God, Corn Buster.
This one's almost certainly an unreleased prototype. Aside from the lack of copyright or licensing information, the game seems to be stuck in debug mode (you'll scroll past the end of a level into garbage tiles if you don't press anything), and it just feels buggy and unpolished overall.
I did find something rather interesting in the ROM:
NINTENDO SHVC MULTI5 CONNECT CHECK VER 1.00END OF MULTI5 CONNECT CHECKSTART OF MULTI5 BIOS
What is this? Something a copier left behind? |

Although the page is long gone, the original source of the rom was Engine Software's website. The game was never released, of course. Perhaps you can use archive.org to find out more about it? |

Just tried the Archive. While all the pages (minus the one that doesn't work, of course) have a downloads link, they all lead to a big ol' 404 error. It appears that the ROM's original source is long gone...
[UPDATE] I sent an email, and I got a response from Ruud van de Moosdijk, the VP of Development at Engine Software. He says that he did foreground and enemy sprites for the game, and confirmed that almost everyone who worked on Corn Buster is still there. If anyone has any specific questions about the game, I'm willing to compile your questions and send them to him! |

Perhaps some key questions are:
How far along was this game?
When was the targeted release date?
Were there any publishers considering the game for release?
Was it intended to be a PAL only release?
What were some other snes games being worked on by Engine? Were there any other snes games that got the axe? |

I sent him a list of my own questions earlier today, and he had quite a bit to say about the game. Most of the questions listed above were already in the list. I sent the information to Unseen64, and I've put up the emails on Megaupload here:

Could've sworn there was some Genesis game that was also a scrolling Breakout clone, though.
Bad Omen (Japan). I there was released under an additional name, too. |

NO! You've shattered the Corn Buster mystique forever! How could you?!
(Seriously, though, that was an entertaining read. Getting a reply like that--especially from someone in his position--is truly a rarity nowadays. Excellent work!) |

I guess I should be making an article on Snes Central about this. |

Wow, that was actually really interesting. I was not ever expecting anything about corn busters to be interesting. Maybe it was the guys tone? He still seemed excited about this game. |
