(eh, scratch that. Maybe I just missed the link back then. I see the XXX :D proto is in the GoodNES set.)
(I remember there being a few f-bombs in the screens. Were they photoshopped, or were Capcom's devs just bored?) |

I've started making a table to dump text from Destiny of an Emperor.
@ offset $1DF50 w/ iNES 1.0 header:
Code: | s###Q# GAME DESI
GNS..7OKAMOTOS#6B
AMBOOS#7KIHACHI# |
We can see that Kamoto, Bamboo, and Kihachi designed the game.
As far as I can tell, there is no other hidden text.
However, a Scott Maxwell is also mentioned in the credits.
A quick Google of his name shows that he was most likely a text localizer.
Could he have been the same person who localized the text for Adventures in the Magic Kingdom? |

I can confirm that track 14 is indeed the ending theme to Adventures in the Magic Kingdom.
Also there's another game that has an unused track, one you'd wouldn't think would, but does. The Nintendo World Championship cart. Track 2.
Speaking of that, did anybody ever notice the "intermission" music between games, was reused as the bonus room music in Hello Kitty World? (The Famicom port of Balloon Kid.) |

Whoa, I didn't know that. Can anyone hook me up with the .nsf?

Didn't know that either! Wait, this didn't come out *before* NWC 1990? I thought it was first...

That would make total sense then.

Thanks for bringing that up. Good to know.
Now, who is Bamboo? |

Balloon Kid was first released in 1990 in the US.
(Japan apparently didn't get it until the 2000 GBC version)
Hello Kitty World was released in 1992. |

What tracks specifically? That doesn't even make any sense. |

Track 4 in HKW = track 1 in NWC, aside from the first 7 notes (the SMB theme).
Other HKW oddities:
- uses the Dr. Mario sound engine (the drums and shared sound effects give it away)
- bonus rounds are the same size as the GB screen
- someone once mentioned that the code looked like it had been run through a Z80 -> 6502 converter (the Z80 being the GB's CPU)
- some music tracks retain the GB "style" (track 5), while others sound like Dr. Mario rejects (tracks 8 and 9)
I have to wonder how long Nintendo actually spent working on this port...couldn't have been more than a few weeks, tops. |

Oh, I thought it was Magic Kingdom and HKW. Pfff...
Hirokazu Tanaka was the sound programmer on HKW, if that means anything. GB Balloon Kid and HKW were developed by the same people (Pax Softonica? Programmer Takayuki Onodera won't answer my e-mails). |

It can be found on this page:

Another strange thing about HKW, is on the title screen. Nintendo aren't directly credited in this game, instead the copyright mentions "1992 Mario Co, Ltd". I don't know what that's about. Also Sanrio Carnival 2 mentions Mario on the title screen. |

Here's a Japanese write-up on Mario Co., Ltd. It was established in April 1991. I guess the article is saying it was a joint venture of Nintendo, Dentsu, and a Dentsu subsidiary called Dentsu Prox. The Nintendo-Dentsu Game Seminar held from 1990 to 1992 may have been connected with it. Hiroshi Ikeda of Nintendo was the president. There's more, but I can't make sense of it.
Here's a short article in English. According to it, Mario Co. was a joint venture of Nintendo and Dentsu (ad agency). Nintendo would own 51% and Dentsu would own the rest. |
