I have managed to track down a prototype cartridge of the rare and unreleased Bio Force Ape by Seta. Thanks to the help of some anonymous individuals who have dumped the rom of this ultra-rare prototype cartridge.

1st smarmy, discrediting reply!

Don't download this useless homebrew ROM! It's full of butter, 2K monies, and that's all.

It's not completely useless, it still makes me laugh a little.

You call that a rom?

I got a package in the mail on april first, had a broken NES cart and a tub of margarine. The NES cart had UV eproms, but the board was broken in half. I had to send the eproms off to a friend to get them dumped. There was actually a rom on them.

I don't have any idea who paulB really is, but they obviously know my address...

Whoever made that rom has some problems with the english language. There are some pretty bad spelling and grammar mistakes in there.

i think its all good...all i ever really cared about was finally getting to see that stupid buttery ape walk across the screen. the 'ending' is fairly reassuring as well. i just hope that there arent any repros of it, but im sure thats too much to hope for. should have put TWO THOUSAND ELEVEN to be safe..

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here. You're hoping that whoever made the rom isn't going to try to sell the full game on a cart? I don't really see why that would be an issue. As soon as a cart is out, someone is going to dump it and everyone will have the rom anyway...

i just think that with the stink of it being joked about so much that it would be a sign of goodwill to make it available to people without capitalizing on it. whoever 'made' the rom or roms didnt truly make it, seta made the game.

Let's assume that it takes more then one person to make an NES game in this day and age. For the sake of arguement, let's say it takes 3 parties. One programmer, one artist, and one person to produce the actual carts.

Let's say you have some kind of... i dunno... programming ace who starts making the game. For the sake of arguement, lets say the demo above took... roughly 4,323 lines of assembly code. Let's say the full game, as it stands now is... roughly 6,255 lines of assembly code. Let's say this programming ace has spent over 250 hours programming the game thus far.

Now let's say this programming ace started talking to the original "PaulB" and talked him into doing the artwork for the game. You know, the guy who created the whole internet meme? Now let's say this ficticional "PaulB" has made hundreds of original tiles, sprites, artwork, concepts, revisions, and characters.

Let's say both of them have spent the better part of several months coming up with the story, dialog, and cutscenes.

Now when it comes to homebrew, you only get one chance to do it right. Once there's a rom availible, anyone can put it on a cart and sell it. So you have to make the first release count. That means profesional box, 8 page color manual, label, and styrofoam insert.

In this completely hypothetical situation, you're looking at several thousand dollars in up front costs, not including time. And you still have to factor in the costs of the donnor carts, eeproms, assembly and shipping.

It's going to cost much more to produce carts for this game then it did to buy Punchout 2 from DreamTR.

So i'm really not going to fault whoever is making this game if they decide to sell a few carts before the rom is released...

The the above, completely hypothetical situation, I would probably be willing to pay for one of these imaginary cartridges so long as the cart shell is manufactured in butter yellow.

The other thing i forgot... If someone goes through all the trouble of making the game and testing it on real hardware, if they don't end up selling it on a cart, someone else will.

There's a pretty obvious demand for the game to be on a physical cart. If the people making the game don't do it, someone else will.
