Seeing repros of Tom and Jerry 3 and Wait and See made me think about old theredeye.net where I think I remember these two games being released. I bought Tom and Jerry 3 off yahoo soon after that and it remains one of my few treasures. It is a truly awful game but I am happy it has been exposed to the world.

I've got bad news for you, I can't even find my complete personal backup.
I'm glad you liked the site, but for me it's a bit of an embarrassment to read anything I wrote, what, eight years ago? Plus the site looks awful on modern web browsers. In the old days, if you resized an image in HTML it would stretch without filters, like the "nearest neighbor" function in Photoshop. Modern browsers now soften and filter images, so instead of having big crisp pixels everywhere it looks like it's covered in vaseline. |

You know, compared to a lot of crap that caught on widespread, theredeye.net had some really witty lines that remain damn funny. About the only thing I saw that was really "too easy" and low brow was "Ryu retarded brother", though that might have been someone else writing it.
The world's only talking donkey remains my favorite.
In other words, I wouldn't be too embarrassed about that.
Why do I want to play a Sachen game now? |

I'm not really seeing the point of reproductions of several of those "translations" that are probably just the released Japanese ROM on an NES cart. What's the point when you could get a FC cart. And Castle Excellent over the US Castlequest?
Not to mention some of those are incomplete (even the author of the Deep Dungeon IV patch said it was buggy and someone should redo it. I'll probably, once I get in a masochist mood to finish DD3.) |

The content was original, but too "random" and "wacky" in the way all 19-year-old geeks think is funny. |

I registered to say that I miss theredeye.net too! That page brought me hours of ROFLing MAO while I was on high school here in Argentina! I even wrote Frank a mail which surely must have freaked him out due to the incoherence of its content and the fact that I can barely write in English.
I stumbled upon the site looking for the Street Fighter 4 rom for the NES, a game a friend of mine owned in its cartridge form for the "Family Game" Famicom clone, a console which was really common to see around here. The only drawback of the emulated rom was that the original had voices! (the Ryu clones shouted something vaguely resembling "Ha-Do-Ken" and the "military-looking-guys" had their "oomph" and "ha!" samples) and I think that the fCEU emulator couldn't emulate that, or those samples weren't dumped (which I doubt).
It's a shame you lost the backups, Frank! IIRC untill not much ago you could find copies stored on Goggle's caché. Unfortunately I'm not having much luck finding them now (it doesn't help that I'm not very good at using the PC either) but I loved that site. Many multi-games and unlicensed ports carts featured on theredeye.net were easily found on any store here (I once rented the Dragon Ball Z 2 and Aladdin port, and the Sonic one that had the Sonic sprite replaced by Mario) and it was paradise being able to articles about them, and having them emulated on your PC like 15 years after! Untill I discovered that page, it didn't cross my mind that someone could elaborate on those obscure games so in detail, but then I inmediatly realized that I wasn't the only one who was fascinated by those attemps at porting "the hottest games of the moment" on a hardware clearly uncapable of handling them and the speculation of the wheres (Asia?) hows (in messy smokey rooms?) and whys (profit, surely LAUGHING OUT LOUD). So my love for those games grew stronger since then.
Another cool thing on the site is that it didn't had the word "NES" on its address like other pages who seem to try too hard including it like "NEStravaganza" LAUGHING OUT LOUD.
BTW, Sardius place was kinda cool too. Peace! (and sorry the poor English)
Nicolas. |

For everyone's convenience:
theredeye.net on archive.org
Note: I have not gone through this very much, so I'm not sure if it's all there or not, but it seems there is a decent amount of the material available. If anything's missing, go to http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.theredeye.net and try an earlier date. I thought much of it was funny as shit, and will probably spend some quality time reading back through all the old shit again.
Ah, good times. I'll probably come back later with a list of entertaining quotes =P
Also, fuck phpBB for not being able to make a link with an asterisk in it.

The fact that Red Eye said "tee hee" during the legendary Top 50 Emu douchebag battle sequence makes my gizzard feel spectacular. |

That kind of humor can be enjoyed if executed right. You didn't really do it too much.
I will say, looking back, that the whole "mimic a sexstarved manchild for the sake of irony" angle really didn't work. I can't criticize though... I've done much worse... in recent years. |

If you like that kind of kinky humor, you should check out the whole Buffy series. It's the ultimate excruciatingly ball-crushing "wacky" nerd humor.
You should also check it out because it's totally awesome (if for nothing else than having Sarah Michelle Gellar, Eliza Dushku and Summer Glau in it). |

No it isn't.

No she's not. |

I should have added that I was referencing the 19-year-old (which admittedly is more like 14 in Buffy) nerd humor, not the proper nerd humor.
Oh come on, she was in Angel, same thing. Especially if you watch TV shows properly (as in, chronologically). |

Is there really a selling point for Summer Glau other than "she was in Firefly" and/or "she's kind of attractive I guess"? |

I've not watched Buffy/Angel, but Summer Glau plays pretty much the same character in Firefly, The Sarah Connor Chronicles and The 4400... and I'll be damned if she's any different when she pops up on-screen in Dollhouse - Season 2 (When I first saw an episode of Dollhouse, I honestly thought the main character was initially written with Summer Glau's previous performances in mind). |

She plays that whole catatonic robot with no sense of emotion well. Which is kind of the opposite selling point of most actors but whatever. It was a good fit for Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Also, I found theredeye.net to be pretty awesome, but then again I think I'm roughly the same exact age as Frank, so it's not unlikely my 19 year old brain thought his 19 year old humor was top notch. |

theredeye.net had my truly awful Boogerman review, and the Christmas extravaganza he and I did for releases one year way way way back when. Not really sad to see them go. I found some of the old HTML I had written for JAPAN, and reading the "reviews" I did, it was truly bad stuff, but was fun at the time. |

I even semi-resurrected it, all the way back in.... Wow, 04. Sad.
