This game was advertised for Nintendo's VS system along with Wing of Madoola. It definately wasn't released for the Famicom, and I'm guessing it wasn't released in arcades either. But then it could've possibly had a VS only release, similar to how the original Goonies was only available on the Play Choice 10 in the US.

Anyway I was wondering if anybody might possibly know more about it. Normally I probably wouldn't be that interested in a game like this, but it is Sunsoft. Even their mediocre Nes games interest me.

It's a long shot, but the main character has the same coloration as the hero in Blaster Master/Meta Fight, and, from what I can see of the screens, so does his sprite. The games apparently had the same overhead view as well, so hey, maybe Lionex turned into Blaster Master later on.

Also, there's a character named Lionex in Sunsoft's Dead Zone, a Famicom Disk System adventure game from 1986.

That's not a bad theory. Lionex's date is 1987, and Blaster Master/Metafight came out one year later.

Do any of the locations in the pics resemble anything from Blaster Master?

Or, dare I say, Fester's Quest?

Always great to see unexpected stuff like this. Awesome find, Arn.

I did a little digging, but I couldn't much. Apparently the game is unreleased, which I think most of us had already assumed.

Any idea what role he played in Dead Zone? According to this page, Lionex is the villain in the VS game.

From what I can tell, this page makes Lionex out to be some evil, intelligent supercomputer, and presumably the villain.

Ah that explains why there is only a rom of this. I always wondered what that Goonies Nes rom was.

That flyer for the VS game says something about a Mother Computer named Lionex.

Odd they'd name the game after the villain, but then again, there is Metroid.

Cool, it sounds like Dead Zone and VS Lionex are related. Good call, Kid Fenris.

I kinda want to try Dead Zone now. Sucks that it's so Japanese intensive.

Do yourself a favor and pick up some energy drinks and/or beer, and download or buy the Paranoia RPG series books for some intense, quick, evil-computer/commie/mutant role playing greatness, man.

A picture from the Oct 7,8, 1986 AM Show printed in the November 14th Famitsu:

The text says that the graphics are "Plain. So it's probably a Famicom game" The writer goes on to say that although he played the game, he didn't understand it so well, calling it "mysterious".

There's also Metal Gear and Snatcher, I suppose.

Yes, and you do defeat a supercomputer at the end of Metal Gear. It's a conspiracy, says I.

OT: Yep, I remembered playing this as a kid in local arcades and was always stumped about why I could never find anything but The Goonies II for NES, until I found this out. Great fuckin game tho.

I love when I think I've found something new, search google, and find that we already talked about it on my forums years ago. We're still a valuable resource, updates or not!

I'll leave this here. It's a rather boring game.

Hey, awesome. I assume since you're here you know we'd be really interested in backing those ROMs up but, in lieu of that, think you might be up to taking some video off of your phone and putting it on YouTube so we can see it in action?
