Has anyone seen these before? I just noticed them today.
On the first scan, it's obvious the story sequences are photo montages, but what is that fourth image? It certainly doesn't look like something from the NES version.
However, the real gold is on the second scan. Check out those state of the art, high resolution beta cinema scenes!

Actually, that prototype should be floating around the Internet somewhere. I believe the only known difference between it and those screenshots is that "KINDNAPPED" was changed to "KIDNAPED". |

A beta of Batman with those cinema sequences was dumped actually, and is available here.
http://www.skrybe.net/old/index.html
Just click on Batman (U) (Older Beta). All the cinema scenes are completely different, the 1-up icon shows up in level 1, (And never appears again oddly.) and Joker isn't the final boss. He isn't in the game at all, it ends after you kill his bodyguard Firebug, resulting in a totally different ending sequence. You can get through the game quickly by pressing A on controller 2. |

The proto has already been dumped and released, but I just scanned in some pics from a magazine showing an even older proto (cinemas):

I wouldn't be surprised if those are the pics hidden under the movie stills in Nintendo Power. Maybe WB/DC didn't approve of the art and the editors had to cover it up. |

I get a weird trailer trash vibe from that picture of Vicki.
Chris, re: the glitchy status bars, could it be that whoever took those pictures just held the Reset button on the Famicom in order to freeze the action? Note that the only one on the Famitsu page that isn't glitched has no moving enemies onscreen, and the non-glitched ones on the Famimaga page appear to have been taken from an RGB console (dev unit?). |
