I just came across the press release announcing the unreleased Transformers game for SNES, and thought some people here might want to see it.

Business Wire

January 6, 1994, Thursday

Takara Video Game Division announces at the Consumer Electronics Show it will launch 6 new titles in the coming year

With the opening today of the Consumer Electronics Show, Takara Video Game Division, a leading publisher of interactive entertainment announced an aggressive 1994 new product program. Continuing their successful approach of reprogramming arcade hits for Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis home game systems, Takara will launch 6 new titles in the coming year.

These new titles will be supported with extensive marketing campaigns including television advertising, magazine media campaigns and strong promotional activities. This ambitious program is supported by a successful alliance with SNK - developer of many of the arcade mega-hits of the last few years and the power behind all the super-hot NEO-GEO arcade games. By delivering the highest quality programming and super playability in their games, Takara is intent on building on their reputation for quality games and great action for all game players.

Here's the 1994 line-up from Takara:

The arcade megahits of Fatal Fury and King of the Monsters will be followed by their own action-packed sequels - Fatal Fury 2, Fatal Fury Special and King of the Monsters 2. - Fatal Fury 2 reunites the Bogard brothers - Andy and Terry - with their best friend, Joe Higashi. Burning with blazing

animation and huge arcade graphics, this game will offer unique

3D action! Available for both Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis.

- Fatal Fury Special offers an incredible sixteen fighters in 16

stages of hard-hitting combat with all the action of the NEO-GEO

original. Available for Super Nintendo.

- King of the Monsters 2 is 16 megs of face-stomping, bone-crushing

action with the added incentive of alien monsters standing between

the game player and global conquest. Available for both Super

Nintendo and Sega Genesis.

Quickly following these games will be two titles that have been on gamer's most-wanted list for months: World Heroes 2 and Samurai Shodown. - World Heroes 2 uses 24 megs of power to fuel this arcade hit into one awesome fighting game. Some of the most aggressive bad guys ever assembled - like Kim Dragon, Mudman and Rasputin - are waiting to test the fighting skills of every game. Available for Super Nintendo.

- Samurai Shodown - the Number One arcade hit in 1993 - blasts in

with graphics and moves never seen before on home game systems.

From action zooms to dazzling sword play, this one never lets

up. Available for Super Nintendo.

Then what promises to be a mega-event for the video game industry - the launch of ...

- Transformers: Generation 2 will combine the latest technology - the

newest fastest running S/FX chip - with one of the most popular toys

in the last 15 years

- Transformers. Outrageous 3D graphics and lightning fast animation will make this game a top-seller in '94. "Our 1994 game plan is very ambitious. But with the proven popularity of the arcades behind each of our games and our commitment to maintaining the highest programming standards, we feel we will be successful." said Kinya Tago, vice-president of Marketing, for Takara. "We also believe that our stepped up marketing programs which will include more dealer support and more consumer pull-through advertising will spread the Takara reputation for great games to a much larger audience."

Wow, and here I thought that the rumors of Transformers for the SNES was pure speculation, based on seeing Vortex. I'm betting this didn't get too far into development (if at all).

Would have been nice if it had been produced. I probably would have bought it at the time.

most likely cancelled due to the poor sales of generation 2 towards the end. but would have been intersting to see what they would have come up with.
