Browsing through Yahoo JP Auctions came across this interesting proto cart, which, according to the seller, has the writing "Wanwan Panic" on it.
Anybody have any idea what this is or any history of carts like it? |

No, these are not protos. They're the earliest examples of "repro carts" on the Famicom. You bought a special cartridge that had blank EPROMs on them, then used a Fami cart copier to duplicate a cartridge onto the EPROMs. They're from the mid-80s and could duplicate only the smallest (32-48k) Famicom games.
For example, here: http://slpcat3.blog117.fc2.com/blog-entry-252.html

On a related note, there are prize editions of Obake no Q Tarou in the wild that differ slightly from the released version. I've heard the player character is colored gold instead of white, dunno if there's any changes beyond that. |
