Hi, Yuzo Koshiro posted today on his Twitter feed a few design document pictures from games like Actraiser, Sonic GG, Streets of Rage (2), etc.

[edit] Much higher-quality scans of the pages below are available on this page: http://nlab.itmedia.co.jp/nl/articles/1606/30/news163.html

Here are the docs for Actraiser rotated and straightened out:

Sometimes I wish that Nintendo had stuck with that original plan of the Y and B position buttons on the Super Famicom/"SFX" prototype controller being named as B and A, if only to circumvent creating the Wii/3DS/Wii U era of awkward B-and-A upward angled control schemes in spite of being on pads with diamond-arrangement face buttons.

Now, now, don't blame Super Famicom-era Nintendo for that re-design just because Wii-era Nintendo developers had apparently never seen a Super Nintendo controller in their lives. :P

It's astounding to think that Actraiser was Quintet's first game, and on completely new hardware, at that. I know some of the staff worked on Falcom games, but it's still impressive that they set the Super NES soaring right away.

Well, the goal of the Actraiser project, according to the design doc, was to make a game in a new genre, and to use the SFX's tricks in ways that had never been seen before on a console.

Pretty lofty goals all around.

Nice. Hopefully they keep releasing stuff.. Actraiser 2, Vatvla, Car Battler Joe...Fox Junction would be very unlikely but awesome.

Is it known if Ancient was involved with the Actraiser project that Quintet was supposedly developing for Saturn before they decided to make Solo Crisis instead? There seems to be very little proof it even existed at any point, but Koshiro is probably the most high profile person who would actually know.

Here's a simple machine translation of that design document:
Quote:
I) Title
The World Master

Ⅱ) Target machine
Super Family Computer

Ⅲ) Development purpose

Since it is the software of the first cartridge of SFX, the game of the genre which is not in former is made to permeate a user, and the industry is approached in the possibility of a game.
Moreover, what can carry out a fruit to the maximum by none of other hobby machines taking advantage of the function (expansion, rotation, reduction, double scrolling, and translucence processing) of SFX is made.

Ⅳ) The outline of a game

This is a game describing process in which God from which power was taken by the evil spirit regains its power, and forms man's land.
Incarnation of God is carried out to a warrior, it fights with evil, and a set of men and a woman are made to live in the purified land.
They make posterity, and one house serves as a colony, serves as a village, and develops into a town soon.
Man forms various culture with development of civilization.
It memorizes constructing a bridge, knows making iron from an ore, and studies carrying out a fishery by ship.
If the number of people increases, by their faith, God regains power gradually and can use various miracles.
God fighting with evil and purifying other lands, a trouble of man is canceled using a miracle, and man finds out the tool which God was using once and offers God.
Thus, it is the outline of this game that God and a human being help each other, destroy evil spirits, and man's world is finally established.

This game consists of an action part and a simulation part.
Below, each specifications are indicated to be the flow chart of a rough operation system.
