Before it was retooled and released as Wani Wani World, there was a proper version of The Berlin Wall for the Mega Drive that resembled the arcade original and the Game Gear port.

As far as I know, the only evidence we had about its existance was this small blurb in issue #20 of EGM, which covered the Winter CES expo of 1991:

Turns out that the EGM guys also took quite a lot of video footage at the Tokio Toy Show in May '91, which includes the full intro of the game!

And now they've released all that footage uncut on YouTube, so... enjoy the crazy intro to this history-rewriting unreleased version:

I'm sure you noticed, but around 4:12 is actual footage of the infamous Sphinx mini boss from Rockman 4. BMF speculated on twitter that it may have been cut for difficulty concerns. It sure looked cool though.

I was kind of surprised to see Genesis Populous previewed in that original video. I thought that was a licensed game said to be incompatible with TMSS consoles. (was that even so with the Japanese version, which according to GameFAQs was published by Sega than EA)
Supposedly "consoles that didn't include Sonic the Hedgehog" was how they described the compatibility.
