Is it possible that we will never see some prototypes as they may have been forever destroyed or bitrotted? I think a lot of of them either have or will. Like maybe Moon Dancer for Genesis or some NES protos. Maybe the companies destroyed them.
It's a bit sad because with the current psychological disease known as hoarders/hardcore collectors, we may never see many games released in our lifetime. One that's still on my mind is Dragon Hopper. Does someone really have that game and is there proof (like pictures) that it's in their possession? Will that ever surface?
So, tell me, name some titles you think we'll never see or your thoughts on this. |

All copies of Lord of the Rings for the Nes were destroyed, at least according to a programmer DreamTR spoke with. |

Wouldn't friggin surprise me if you opened a LOTR SNES cartridge, there'd be either:
A: Some magical gateway to another dimension of horrible video gaming
B: a unique one-of-a-kind NES->SNES adaptor
I'll just end this with a quote from my favourite old video game mag:
"Tolkien is rotating in his grave" |

Who knows if Castlevania Ressurection for Dreamcast will ever surface.
There was also a Castlevania for Sega 32X that was never released. All people have of it is a little spritework. |

Since we're onto later games, I'd like to pop up a personal favourite (kinda)
Resident Evil 1.5
The almost completed first draft for Resident Evil 2.
A game that is basicly covered from top-to-toe, but yet not found. |

I believe the Oliver Twins' Dreamworld Pogie and Wonderland Dizzy have been lost forever. I don't have to tell anybody how much I think that sucks.
To this day I still have a curiosity for Codemaster's unreleased stuff during the Nes era. Metal Man was a game I was particularly interested in. Hopefully whatever proto of that existed hasn't gone kaput yet. |

WARP's M2 version of D2? I've heard they lost it when they threw out the M2 computers containing the game data. It was said to be quite different to the DC version later released.
Which shows you, being a binman is a cool job. Who knows what you might find?
As for bitrot? They should have put more games on vinyl, those will never die (some speccy games, mostly crap ones, I believe were put on vinyl records...). |

I would love to see the original Zelda 64 on the DD64. Supposedly Nintendo finished this, but never decided to release it. The Master Quest version of this game doesn't count.
Also Resident Evil 1.5 along with the original RE4, both the GC version and the game we now know as the Devil May Cry. |

Speaking of Moon Dancer, that's one title that bugged me for a while... I was reading old articles from videogame magazines that published right about the time the Turbografx-16 and Genesis were about to come out, and they compared the different categories of game headed for both systems. They mentioned a few RPGs for the Genesis; Phantasy Star 2, (Sword of) Vermillion, Hollo Fighter (Super Hydlide) and Moon Dancer. I've wondered for a while what the heck that game was supposed to be. Care to share any info you might have about it? |

Hmm, I was just sort of thinking how so much of the information about the history of videogames could be lost due to the data residing on the internet, where things often disappear. Or maybe I'm just having delusions of grandeur. |

No book. At least not until we've got about 2000 more games reviewed. |
