Does anyone know what the exact deal behind this unreleased SEGA CD game is? I read the following on SegaBASE a long time ago:
Quote: | Ports for both Genesis and 3DO were planned but never released. This was the last title produced by Absolute before the company went bankrupt. Despite reports to the contrary over the years, the completed game has yet to be released due to all of the legal complications surrounding Absolute's collapse. Good Deal Games is currently (12/2001) in negotiations to secure the license to Smoke and Mirrors, but the legal maneuvering continues. |
I'm guessing that nothing ever came of the Good Deal Games thing. I remember reading GamePRO's review of the game in an old issue and it seems to be an interesting "game." It consisted of a 2D sidescrolling portion as well as other games such as "Desert Bus," where you have to drive a bus across flat desert for eight hours to score one point, then have to drive it back.
There was also some fake game that was impossible to win unless you put in some special code that only the owner of the game would know, supposedly wowing your friends with your awesome game skills. It doesn't really sound like much of a game, but it's interesting nonetheless. |

I've played it. It's awesome. I really, really wish I had a copy.
If I remember correctly, they're still kind of halfheartedly working on the legal aspect of it. They got Penn & Teller themselves to agree, but someone else had to agree or...something.
Anywho. We won't cover that game here, because Mike at Good Deal Games is a really wonderful guy, and that's his baby. |

I talked to... I guess it was Mike, at CGE, and he said that they were actually going to debut it then, but there were some paperwork issues. |

Man! I wanted to so much try this game out after reading reviews. I wonder how the whole "super graphics" thing they had would've worked. |

I believe there was another crossover game planned for the NES, sort of like the Battletoads/Double Dragon game. Was The Lion King/Siegfried and Roy game ever released? |

I believe KOEI ended up releasing it for the PC, but the NES version was scrapped. I remember it getting so-so reviews from VG&CE back in the day. |
