Hello!

I think the beta/prototype version exist! Sad I found some strange things about the Famicom demo.

1) The first boss is different, different dungeon layout, different blocks, the boss have wings, it's feet flashes, and have green horn. I have the picture.
(beta)

(final)

2) I don't remember Gleeok gives you bombs, the bomb looks silvery than blue, what the hell is Link dropping and picking up?

3) I don't know how you get magic wand with low hearts and most of all, where the hell are the bombs on the status screen? The map layout for Level 3 is different???

4) Different map layout? took it with my camera (sorry) because Windows wouldn't let me screen-print it. Anyways, It might be mirrored.

Enjoy! oh on the screenshot I hacked to get Lion Key to get to the boss quicker.

Which video are you looking for? The one I made with GIF or the one that was taken from my cellphone camera?

1) The sprite is the same, but the white and dark green are swapped. The blocks and color scheme are obviously quite different, though.

2) That's just a glitch in the encoded video. Notice how the two mystery objects appear exactly where Link and a fireball were a few frames back, and how Link "erases" them when he walks back over them.

3) Can't argue with that one.

Unfortunately, an old promotional video doesn't prove the existence of a prototype version. If any disks do exist (and weren't overwritten with later builds), they're likely locked up deep within NoJ somewhere.

Actually, an FDS prototype of Zelda with confirmed differences turned up in Japan several years ago. I was under the impression that's where some of these videos were coming from.

Ahh that third picture hurts my eyes. Its like going in and out really fast. Gifs move faster on fire fox for some reason.

I print-screened it so people can see it better.

I can't see half the pics inthe original post. Red Xs...

Not sure where that last pic is in the video, but if you see Link, see what hand he has the sword in. Since he's left handed, if it's in his right, the screen is mirrored.

Oh, crap, I completely forgot about that.

Here's hoping the owner was smart enough to at least make a private backup...

Very doubtful it was backed up. Anyone know who won it?

Not a clue who owns it, Rob. Some Japanese guy with deep pockets, no doubt.

The Zelda FDS prototype was sold on Yahoo Japan Auctions a while back. It's probably been 5 years or so. I don't remember the listing going into much detail about what was different, all I can recall is it saying something about there being no music on the title screen, or something like that. Here's a picture of the prototype disk.

Well, first you'd have to question why they'd mirror it in the first place. If they'd go that far, maybe they'd chop it so everything but the display was mirrored. Who knows why editors do anything like that. That kind if thing happens all the time in movies and such. Many scenes are mirrors, but you can't tell. Does it happen in Japanese videogame promotional beta videos too? I dunno, I suppose it could.

Any idea how much that Zelda FDS proto went for?
