So anyone know the entire deal on this?

I know there's a cd-i emulator
http://www.cdiemu.org/

here, but it requires "CD-i system ROMs"

as I'm likely to never own this system nor will most people. Does anyone have knowledge on where to find one?

Honestly, you're better off not knowing. Just let it go.

Neat, yes. Fun, meh. It's really just an engine test, no gameplay whatsoever.

You can find CD-i ROM images on the internet, it's right next to Colors.

Also, the emulator is slow as shit, and finnicky, and hasn't been updated since its first public release well over a year ago (yet he expects to be paid for it!).

also btw, TheRedEye is right the emulator does suck ass

I got SMWW to be minimiumly functional.

and by the time I acessed a level my 3 min time limit was nearly up

Muting the sound helps the speed.

You can get keyboard support by downloading a mouse to keyboard program. Which you basically have to do as its inpossible to move the sprite with just a mouse.

I used Key Mouse Genie.

Of course the 3 minute time limit is just stupid since the emulator is sooo slow, you can't experience anything in that time.

I went to check out the cost for the full version and its $30!

I mean sure the guys hard at work developing it, and perhaps in a scenario where he promised reguar updates i'd pay it. But, 2005 was the last update. So i dunno.

it seems a shame to let "over 70,000 lines of C++ code, all of it written from scratch in [his] private time" go to waste.

Perhaps if we're lucky someone else will develop one.

Is it honestly that hard?

If you paid for it, it'd be like throwing 30 bucks out the window.

You're better of paying for a CD-I on eBay, and burning the ROM to disc.

Yeah, don't even try to emulate it. You can get a real CD-i for MUCH less than the cost of registering that emulator (I got mine for free in exchange for a plate of cornbread that I didn't even have to bake), and you can get the games for free if you know where to look.

This is wrong. This is VERY wrong. People keep saying this, and yet these people are VERY VERY VERY WRONG. Zelda's Adventure is BY FAR the worst CD-i Zelda game. Zelda's Adventure is also the ONLY CD-i Zelda game to not have a full walkthrough on Gamefaqs. Why? Because Zelda's Adventure is UNFINISHABLE SHIT and cannot be considered by anyone who has ever played it to be anything that resembles a good game.

Sorry, this is a sore point with me. Stop spreading the lies!

Well why is it worse then the others.

It may be bad but most people say its better then the other two

"Zelda's Adventure was created by an entirely different company with a change in style and gameplay, and is considered a slight improvement. Gameplay is very much like the original game, with an overworld that allows access to individual dungeons. Regardless, the game is considered to be an inferior use of the Legend of Zelda title by most fans. The game is not officially recognized as canon by Nintendo because of their lack of involvement.""

Still its not horrible.

Here's another site.

http://www.geocities.com/gdraxa/zadv/

"While not on a par with the new Zelda 64 or the SNES' A LINK TO THE PAST, it really does shine. Returning to the original top down display of the NES games, it adds a freedom of movement & removes the rigidity of control that the side scrollers had. Zelda's Adventure regains the respect for the CD-i the other two took away."

"Overall this game seems like a return to the original NES style of Zelda play. You move off the edge of the screen, you go load another screen. No large scrolling areas. This game is for the real Zelda fan. A decent story. Great control. Good (albeit sometimes muddy) graphics. If you're a fan of the "Old School" Zelda, this game is definitly for you."

I convinced him to give me a "press review copy" that expired after a month, and I managed to get some screenshots with it.

did you review it offically?

I'm pretty sure you summed it up in your last posts.

But, was the full edition much better?

It might be a bit dumb to ask for. But, gathering that the project hasn't been worked on for awhile and the 30$ is outrageous. Anyone know where to get a full version, by torrent or any other source.

Nah, I was using it to make screenshots for a Mario/Zelda feature, way back when I was on Nintendo Official Magazine. The feature was canned though, I didn't have enough time to do it. The full emulator is the same thing, but without time limits.

And hey, guys, please don't discuss how to pirate software that's still officially being supported on my forums. I'm not going to chew you out about it or anything, and I agree with you that it probably should be free, but I can't officially condone it here.

And you're saying this based on never having played the game and you're backing it up by quoting a review posted on Geocities?

Okay here's what makes it not not horrible.

- Ugly digitized graphics.
- Boring FMV.
- It's racist.
- It's unplayable bullshit that nobody in the world has ever finished and WHY WILL YOU NOT BELIEVE ME WHY????

Seriously, just play it and tell me it's not terrible. It's impossible to control, really easy to get stuck in, and has 10 second load times between screens. I finished the other two games, but I can't make myself play Zelda's Adventure for more than a few minutes at a time.

That's cool. I hope its still being supported. And hopefully patience will pay off as perhaps it will be free one day. I think he mentioned this in a cd-i fourm

And Sardius

I've never played it. But, I definitely would if I had a copy and a Cd-i

I'm not basing my opinion on just that article. I just liked the postivity of it. Theirs a bunch of articles that claim it to be 'ok'. But, by okay , they mean apprantely slightly better then the others.

But, for all I now your right. If I can take a look at it I will. But, I doubt I'll ever be able to.

Ign seems to sorta agree with you so I'll take your word

"The controls are once again so loose and the collision detection is so wonky that what initially looked like fun quickly turns into boredom. Here's how the basic game works: you walk to the edge of the screen, the game freezes and loads the next screen. Once it's done, you will find yourself on the adjacent screen, populated by three monsters. If you're unlucky, you will find yourself right on top of a monster and you will lose a heart. If not, you can use your staff to kill the monsters and get rupees or hearts back. Sadly, the controls are very laggy, so this is easier said than done. Your best bet is to just stand in one spot and keep on hitting your button and hope your enemies run into your staff or projectile. "
