Maybe it's just me... But I almost exclusively use the keyboard when I'm gaming on my computer. Even with ROMs and such. Which is weird because my controls are sort of backwards compared to the real thing (D-pad on the right, buttons on the left) Obviously when games make use of the mouse, I use that but rarely if ever do I pull out a USB gamepad.

Same, actually. I actually have usb adapters for SNES controllers, but tend not to use 'em. Just feels.. weird. Or dirty.

I've got a pair of Gravis GamePad Pros from forever ago, but the directional pad sucks much ass for anything requiring precision.

Yeah, Gravis really dropped the ball after the original GamePad. The last Gravis controller I ever bought did nothing but diagonals unless I pressed exactly in the direction I wanted to go, and one of the analog sticks had a dead spot in its range of motion. Apparently a poorly-animated, talking software installer is more important than usable hardware.

I'm a fan of Saitek controllers, though their buttons tend to be pretty noisy.

I like my Madcat wireless controller, works nicely on both my Mac and Windows machines.

I really like Nyko's Air-Flo but apparently it's been discontinued:

I've got a PS2 Air-Flo. It's actually more useful than I thought, although I'm not fond of it's bulkyness.

Thanks, I couldn't stop watching it either, which is why I stole it from somebody on the Penny-Arcade forums. I wish I could take credit for something so awesome.

Last I used mine was when FCEU was still being updated.
I downloaded an update, and then I tried to play Castlevania.
Suicidal Simon would walk off every cliff on his own.
Just like Xod warned...

Naw, pretty sure it was just coincidental timing that the directions on my pad wore out.
