Look here.

Back around 2002-2003 I was more actively involved in hunting down unreleased games and talking to game designers and coders. Us at the former FeFeA had a secret board in which we discussed these games before FeFeA became Lost Levels.

Unfortunately due to my inconsistent lifestyle, I wasn't able to maintain good notes for all of the findings.

Let's start with Mutation Software. Unfortunately, mutationsoftware.com had/has a robots.txt file in it so that Archive.org never had a chance to back it up. From what I can recall vaguely, it consisted of a single developer in the UK that made very "European" games. I met him through a mutual friend on IRC between the dead #rareroms channel and #gbadev in EFNet at the time. Shit hit the fan on two accounts for me due to poor life choices and countless misunderstandings and conflicts of interest, so these titles weren't able to see the light of day.

Mutation Software:

In the Mini-Pak, archived by the original author, it includes development artwork for 3 unreleased GBA games:

Black and White
Monster Football
Tin Toy Advance

Also included in this directory is another build of Tin Toy Advance the game that he tried to sell to another start-up GBA producer. From what I foggily call, he said that Tin Toy Advance never picked up because his producers/publishers kept dropping like flies and couldn't pay him to continue developing the title. Unfortunately, I don't remember any details regarding Monster Football or Black and White.

Bonsai Entertainment:

Holy Joe back in the day eagerly discussed with me the development of Card Sharks, Rap Basketball, and Dyno Blaze. He said that Card Sharks was to be made into a GBA title and didn't want me to release it; but GBA's time is up for being a profitable system. Dyno Blaze was going to be a TV series aired by Virgin. Interestingly enough, even before Street Sharks. This game has a corrupt title screen due to Holy Joe and the lead programmer having many different differences of opinions, according to Joe.

Color Dreams:

Included here is the source code for Free Fall and Secret Scout. In the archive is included a few e-mail discussions with Roger Deforest about the games.

I haven't messed around with the source, but I'm sure it could easily be ported to other more concurrent 6502 assemblers. A version of NinDraw is included as well.

---

Hopefully this stuff becomes of interest. Smile

I like the freudian slip in the title: "unhoard of".

Very interesting! The 2nd scrolling tech demo in the B&W demo is downright pornographic! :-P

All the source for these Color Dreams games is cool too. Is it correct to infer that this "Kung Fu" code chunk in every source code folder is some kind of universal game engine for NES game development? It seems to handle all the stuff like objects, scrolling, etc, and the "source" code for the individual games is not so much real ASM code as long strings of DBs and data that the Kung Fu program uses to build a working game. Really weird stuff...

I used to have Gauntlet Legends GBC and and a really early build of Battlebots GBA with this package, but I'm pretty sure I don't have them anymore... I'll keep looking though.
