Today, I am releasing a prototype of Breath of Fire II. I'm pretty certain it is identical to the final version.

Wow! A prototype of a popular Japanese RPG! Fanboy attack! Fanboy attack! Oh wait, it's not Final Fantasy.

I was just thinking to myself I should play BOF2 again as I forgot how bad the translation is. I may as well check to see if there are by playing it again! It was gonna be either BOF2 again or Ultima VII (PC) again; I was going to play something. Thanks for the release guys!

EDIT: The only difference is it crashes after battles every so often, I think.

Today, I am releasing something a bit more interesting: an unreleased game by Radical, called Eurit. Eurit is basically a predecessor to the Playstation and Saturn game, Grid Runner. The game is pretty much complete, and quite fun.

It looks like the Breath of Fire 2 script contains a number of small differences.
http://kingmike.emuxhaven.net/Misc/bof2textdiff.txt
I had a program lying around that would rip the US version's script.
So I then ripped the prototype, and did a simple MS-DOS fc on the two scripts. This is what came out.
("bof2e" is the proto, "bof2e-final" is the released.)
Most of it is grammer/typos.
In the text for when Ryu takes Bow (in the trash can) out of HomeTown, the original text was Adult Magazine. Censored to Comic Book.
There also seems to be a control code, suggesting maybe Capcom did plan to have the script resolve the leader's gender in a few strings.
Joker's text (in his lair) was toned down a bit (less suggestive).

Great! It's one of these unreleased games I've always wanted to play, thanks a lot.

So, does Eurit have an ending sequence and everything, or has anyone played that far? Also, that's some interesting stuff in those BOF2 script dumps, KingMike.

I played to the end of the third set of levels, then I died and the emulator crashed. I didn't feel like playing the first levels again, and I wanted to get the game out. I'll let other people go through it.

Also, good call on the BoFII differences. I'll update the page in my next update.

It's probably been said before but the snes proto I really hope we all get to see someday is Socks the cat rocks the hill... its the only game I can think of straight away other then Michael Jackson's moonwalker that would get a room of non gamers to laugh their (drum roll please) *socks* off.

I believe DreamTR has a prototype of Socks the Cat. You could ask him how much he wants to get the game dumped.

Pirates of the Dark water was one of the greatest shows of all time. I haven't played the game yet. Might as well give the Beta it a shot. Thanks

Today I am releasing a prototype of NBA Jam:

http://snescentral.edgeemu.com/article.php?id=0859

It seems to be identical to the final version, though the checksum of the rom is bad.

Well, apart from 2 bytes(at $7800), it is identical to the final version.

But prototypes of NBA Jam and NBA Jam Tournament edition have already been dumped. The way you can identify these prototypes is by looking at the copyright screens. The bottom line of the second screen reads "V1.0" in the former, and "V1.8" in the latter. Of course, there are many more differences in them than those...

I'm guessing if only two bytes are different, that this is probably a bad dump rather than some completely separate rom.
