Anybody ever hear of an origin story for this? Other than the obvious one of "Hong Kong Fred made a knock-off of Metal Slug"? I'm just surprised at how good a port of Metal Slug the game is for being a pirate game on the Game Boy Color.

Pentarou: Nope, although that's cool, thanks!

Terrfiying 911 is a port of the original Metal Slug, with a different intro. The opening shows grainy ass-vision of the Twin Towers, they go FOOM!, and then the logo comes on the screen. Upon hitting start, you get some text screens with some Engrishy speeches by Bush and Bin Laden, then an image of a map screen, then standard Metal Slug.
Lan Kwei has it for sale here http://www.lan-kwei.com/gbcsoftE/
although somebody offered me stupid money for my copy, saying that Lan Kwei was sold out.

I bought my copy at a dirt mall in Orlando. The person running the place had no clue what the game was, but let me try it on my GBC. Offensive content, and Metal Slug? How could I not buy it!

The gameplay is pretty good, but there're some differences from the NG version (duh). The sound is the standard blips and bleeps, and the enemy count is lowered. All your picked up weapons have infinite ammo, but grenades are still limited. The level layouts are pretty much the same, and the spirit of the game is still intact. Controls are [a]: Jump, [b]: Shoot, [select]: Grenade, [start]: Pause. Continues are limited, I think to four, but I haven't played it into the ground in a while. I can get past the damn jerk boss with the big chain gun, but not much further. I'd love to find out if the General's sprites were replaced with Osama Bin Laden. I don't know if it works on original Game Boy, I'll check at some point soon.

Oh, according to the intro, the game is credited to "Hitek (c)".
And the game's title (according to the title screen) is "Terrifying 9.11", whereas the cart label says "Terrifying 911".

I've had no luck in finding this game. Any possible links as to where to buy one?

I've made another stupid post that a mod has had to edit. (The post below has purposely been left intact.)

Treeman, go back to that link from Lan Kwei that David posted. Their site now says "Availability: Immediately", so I guess they got some more of them from who knows where. US$19/EUR 21,70.

This is their response "I am sorry to tell you that this item is temporarily sold out until further notice, and we have not been given any confirmed restocking date."

As a fan of the Metal Slug series (I even have a Neo Geo Arcade MVS with Metal Slug 3), I'm dying to find out more about it, even just to see some screen shots of it.

No, sorry. I get such great reactions from gamers when I show it to them. I would be willing to lend the cart out to be dumped, though. This game is so wonderful that the world must play it.

I'll take some pics of it on my GBASP in a day or so. I'll throw them on my website. Hrm... I know I've got a video capture doodad around here somewhere. If digital camera + GBASP doesn't work, I'll dig that up and hook it into my Gamecube.

Holy crap, those screens look amazing.

... They almost look like a real SNKP product. O_o;;;

Edit:
Is it just me, or does that game use... the KitsuneFont (tm)?!

And those pics of the twin tower blowing up are actually an FMV not quite on par with GBA Dragons Lair, but not too shabby. The game is well-enough done that I wonder if it was some form of proto that got leaked. The sprites do flicker a bit much, though.

That's exactly what I was thinking... When it gets dumped somebody should look inside the ROM for any SNK logos and such, this might have been one of their last projects before they went bankrupt.

It couldn't possibly have been started before the bankruptcy.

SNK ceased to produce stuff for Nintendo consoles years before they vanished. Takara ported those few games, and craptacularly for the most part (The GBC versions don't count, those were pretty damn good). I doubt that they were actually working on a GBC port of the games, since they had their own portable console at the time. Why develop stuff for the competition?

And goddamnit, CRYSTALIS doesn't count.

There's a Metal Slug Advance version currently in development by SNK Playmore. Few pictures have been released, but what has been shown looks strikingly similar to the shots that David posted. The quality isn't as good, but they are damn similar. I guess that the programmers got ahold of an early build, maybe? Then again, people have been ripping apart NeoGeo games for years now, so maybe someone just ported the code to the GBC or something. I dunno.

To say that I'm impressed is the understatement of the year. Thanks David. Most people would give 1 or 2 screen shots and you went all the way.
