I probably shouldn't be even linking to this, because it's most likely not real, but according to this page, there's one known arcade of Streets of Rage that allows for 3 simultaneous players.

Of course nobody is allowed to take any pics of it, or so it seems. Does anybody know if this is an already known hoax or something?

It was built off the Golden Axe engine, but specifically for the Megadrive, which only supported 2 characters, so its likely just a KLOV mistake.

Unless there was an arcade Streets of Rage before the Megadrive edition (not counting the MEgaplay/tech editions).

Lots of errors in the listing (nothing new for KLOV.) If you click on the "one known instance," it clearly is listed as a MegaPlay title. That means its just the Genesis ROM in one of those multi-game cabs, a la the Nintendo PlayChoice 10. MegaTech and MegaPlay were Sega's version. No mystery here. Move along, nothing to see.

Is there anything in those screenshots thats different than the console? I never played the games myself, but they look like a genesis game.

Having played the original a lot, I'm pretty sure the screenshots are from the Genesis version, though if it's indeed a Mega Play there shouldn't be any differences as well. Those definately do not belong to a 3-player game, however, which is a pity since it would rule.

That's actually a good idea for a hack.

I'm pretty sure that SoR is for the Megaplay thingie for Arcades.

Although, it could be like that Vic Viper game. Everyone thought it was fake and screenshots proved it existed at one point.
