|
|
Someone named Matt has been submitting information to arcade-history.com about unreleased games for numerous systems.
What caught my eye is that he is submitting information about unreleased Sega CD & 32X prototypes for Super Contra, Gradius, Parodius and such (http://www.arcade-history.com/index.php?page=status).
He doesn't provide any sources and I have never seen any magazines mentioning those games in those days.
Is there any truth to such information? |

I'd have to say no. I've never heard or seen any mention of those titles. I have loads of magazines from that era, but no mention. I figured all three of those would stand out. |

I'd say the truthfulness of the user's information could be there. Historically speaking, there are a number of prototypes which still saw the light of day despite being canned before getting word out to the press. (An example which is along those lines would be the modernized Joust remake which popped up a while ago. Granted, nothing substantial beyond screenshots were released to my knowledge, but it's still an example nonetheless.) So, it is possible that no sources may be listed simply because there might not actually be any public ones to begin with. But, having said that, I'd say the validity of the information is now more or less dependent on how privy the user actually was to those projects, if at all, and since that seems to be absent as well, things are probably going to remain iffy on that front. |

Wow, that's a pretty funny circular reference now isn't it... |

Whats also funny is Pachuka owns the site that the guy is using as the reference, AND he even made that post, yet he never heard about any of this. |

Oh man, Castlevania IV would've been great on Sega CD, with the SCD scaling capabilities and such. What a fantastic, probably totally imaginary idea! |

For the record there was a Dracula X sequel planned for the 32X. They even went as far as designing sprites for the main characters.
It would been cool if they had ported the real Dracula X to the Sega CD, instead of bringing us the pseudo-port that was Dracula XX for the SNES, much like they did with Snatcher for the Sega CD (which had no corresponding Mega CD version in Japan). Not to mention Gradius II, which also came out for the Super CD-ROM in Japan. |

I remember reading about Dracula X getting a Sega CD port, probably from some Quartermann bullshit. Also, I wouldn't put it past Konami to plan to bring something like Gradius II to the Sega CD, because at the time they were porting old arcade standbys like Gradius I and Salamander to the PC-Engine. I also doubt that any proof of this will ever end up in a flea market, so hopeful speculation. |

I'd go for semi-bullshit. We're still filtering it bit by bit. There's a lot of stuff on there that hasn't been confirmed or denied yet. |
