So Virtua Hamster for 32x was dumped. I dunno why, but this game seems to be kind of a "holy grail" for 32x. No idea why, I would have prefered to see some of the unreleased STI stuff. None, the less, enjoy, it's actually hard to look away!

That's cool 'n all (not the actual game, but... okay, so a hamster with a rocket pack, or whatever, is a pretty awesome idea!)

Anyway, not to derail this, but could someone feed me some sort of magical English lesson where they explain the whole "Hampster vs Hamster" thing? I keep seeing people write "hampster", but all my information sources keep telling me to correct it to "hamster" (in order to get a winner in the spelling contest). Even that YouTube video has "Hampster" written all over it, even though the game's title screen says Hamster.

AS FAR AS I KNOW Hampster only refers to the "Hampton the Hampster" dance song and it is an artificial word like "Kombat" in Mortal Kombat. I may be mistaken but my dictionaries only list hamster and all other games with that topic I found use hamster as well. Most are japanese though.

It's just a very common mistake, like putting an "a" in "definitely". English has so many ways to pronounce things that when people attempt to spell words phonetically, they usually get it wrong.

I can see now why Virtua Hamster never got finished - the concept is far more interesting than the execution. Still, it's Virtua Hamster! I'm just glad to finally see it, and that it wasn't just some bullshit blurb in Sega Visions.

Depending on location, it comes off sounding very much like hampster. the MST combo causes the lips to form something very close to P midway through. The MS causes the lips to close, with the T finishing off the sound. To be honest, I thought it was hampster. It's not one of those words I spell daily.

I dunno, this is pretty much what I expected Virtua Hamster to look like. Do we have a version number or information on how complete it is? How about how it compares to the other copies?

So the 32x's Holy Grail of lost games is... Sonic 2's bonus stage with branching paths, replacing Sonic/Tails with test rodents, and trying to replicate StarFox-like graphics?

Jesus Jacked-Up Christ, the fact that this actually got to a beta stage at all instead of becoming some Sega R&D staff member's story interview that can be condensed as "There was this one idea being tossed... we pretty much squashed the idea on the spot." makes me sad. Granted I'm glad it was found, but now I just can't stop wanting to make fun of it. I'm trying so damn hard.

And before anyone says I expected too much, my expectations for pretty much anything aren't really there.

What did you expect from a console that was essentially a mushroom penis extension?

It just seemed like a low blow to go there.

My understanding was that even known protos of this were 20 or 40 or whatever percent done. Anyone want to fathom a guess as to the completeness of this release?

The David A. Palmer Productions website makes it sound like this was finished.

"Complete game design and production of 32 bit 3d title, from 'Treatment', to finished product. (Unpublished)."
