Post anything you find on the web that is relevant to this site and I might make a news post on the front page. How exciting!

I'm trying to get in the habit of posting more front page news, so post links in this thread to something I may have missed from the wide world of the internet.

Edit: And if anyone would like to start writing front page news themselves, that would be awesome and we can discuss that via PM.

Am I supposed to post relevant news links in this thread or something? I don't get it.

What is it gonna take for Nintendo Age and Bunnyboy to stop tampering with the title screens of the protos they release? Its really starting to piss me off.

That was one of the requirements for the release to happen from DreamTR. Helps prevent people from trying to pawn off fakes ones, cause people are faking everything these days.

Pretty hard to complain for free ROMs to the masses though Smile

Apparently those are Jason Wilson's terms for his stuff. Frankly, as I'm telling him now on AIM, I don't care if the only version I ever get to see is the altered one, as long as the original exists in a proper archive somewhere. With institutions like Stanford and UT Austin starting to get serious with game preservation, hopefully it's only a matter of time before we can stop worrying about this stuff.

I see. I didn't realize Jason himself mandated those changes for the games to be released. Sorry for sounding like a tight ass there. Admittedly it kind of rubbed me the wrong way for awhile there, as though the guys releasing the protos were somehow taking "credit" for the games they didn't program.

As long as the unaltered releases are safe somewhere like you say I guess its alright.

plus all the end credits are completely intact for the actually programmers. On all the games the only thing changed is the title screen text. We are all about preserving the history as much as you guys are. All the original ROMs for all the releases are fully intact, and backed up for safety Smile

For the price you paid, I think I can ignore a title screen hack. Jeebus guys.

It would take all of about 10 minutes to put the title screen back... There are far worse things they could do to the roms. I've found a couple of tricks that break a rom on actual hardware, but work fine in emulators. It'd be hard to remove because it's not really obvious what's wrong.

Do you guys remember how for years, one of the only screenshots that existed of this game was from the intro? You know, the one where Don King was saying "NO ONE CAN BEAT MIKE TYSON. HE IS "

Now we finally know what Mike Tyson is!

Oh.

I'll admit that was also a concern of mine, that the changes to the protos could eventually get more severe than just simple title/copyright hacks. Editing levels, in game graphics, etc.

Probably an irrational/stupid fear on my part I'll confess. Guess I can be reasonably assured the Nintendo Age guys wouldn't do anything extreme to the games. Plus the knowledge that the unaltered roms are still safe and sound somewhere puts a lot of ease on my back.

So sorry NGD if I came across as a dick. It is cool you guys pooled together to get this released.

Yeah it was cooler when Mike Tyson was simply "is".

No one can Beat Mike Tyson. He is.

Indeed.

No worries man. I do understand your concerns. We are as much about preserving history as you guys are. We plan to do more projects like this in the future if you guys are interested in joining forces Smile
