Translating the title screen? Is this a hack of the released Japanese version?

That is correct. The one being sold is a translation hack. By coincidence, an actual prototype was found very soon after the hack went on sale. |

This. My brother and I recently purchased the only known prototype like a week or two after the hacked repro went on sale. Very cool little proto, I'm surprised it never saw a release stateside. |
