Actually, I have a load of gaming mags from the Netherlands, myself - they're all stored in a moving box, kept them around mostly just to page through them from time to time, would be cool to have them properly archived, I guess.

First off, I have a whole bunch of issues from "Power Unlimited", the leading Dutch multiplatform gaming magazine (still ongoing today, first issue's from July '93, notable games of which featured StarWing and Super Mario Kart, second one featured Bubsy and Lost Vikings, to give an idea of the timeframe), mostly complete apart from a few missing issues here and there, some of them damaged (sniplets cut out) and such, but most of them in pretty good state as I recall.
A few of these even have Philips CD-I articles as well, hahaha.

I'm still deciding what I want to do with these since I do still like to page through them from time to time and regain old memories.
But yeah, it's there I guess. I dunno, if I really want to keep these I could always see about summing up the articles in them and scan them myself, if you want.

I also got a small stack (about 15-20 in all I think) of "Club Nintendo Extra" mags which I got from a friend of mine, don't really remember when it started, but I know there's a bunch of 'em with SNES stuff in there, dating around '94ish. I know the latest I have already had N64 stuff in there. There's also a single "Club Nintendo" (not Extra) mag among them which is from '92 which has Street Fighter 2 on the cover, and as I recall, Zelda Link to the Past in it too, among others.
There's not too many of these, and I don't know how complete they are, really. I'll give it a check soon, and if I get these sorted out I won't be too torn up about it to part with them, either; always been more of a Sega guy, anyway.

As for reimbursement or whatever... we'll see, whatever seems fair, don't need much for 'em, really. Only problem is that I live in the Netherlands. The Club Nintendo's shouldn't be too much trouble, but if I do decide to get rid of the Power Unlimiteds it could be kind of a costly venture, so yeah - I should definitely look into listing the articles in these myself and see whatever's interesting among them.
Like I said, I'm still gonna decide what I want to do with those. I dunno if I really want to get rid of THE first few ones since they have a bit of youthly sentimental value to me as well, but I can definitely part with the Club Nintendo mags, no problem.

Any word, Frank? I'm so hard up for money that I'm checking this on almost a daily basis to see if you've looked through the list. On the same token, I'm almost considering selling some of my most prized VG items (which is basically my Sonic 3 EPROM cart and possibly my Super Magic Drive) just to get through. This world is fuckin sad, that someone can't even own a very few prized VG items without having to worry about selling them just to make it through :/

Out of curiosity, are there any interesting beta-ish aspects/features of the Sonic 3 cart to speak of? I've got a soft spot for Sonic 3 and/or Knuckles.

Binary-identical, at that. I dumped it myself, obviously. It's valuable to me not for what's on it, but the fact that it is a pre-production EPROM prototype.

Forgive the lack of formatting, but here is the list of the magazines that I have. I'm at my parents' place (horray dialup), so forgive the slowness of my response if you want any of them. I'm going to make an effort to get rid of all of these by the end of the month, as I am moving to Australia next year, and my parents are already storing a lot of my crap. So, these are the ones I don't have, though I'd be happy to take anything you're going to throw away (except Nintendo Power, I have too many of those). We can arrange something over PM if you'd like.

I threw the ones you needed in a box. Send me a PM with your address, and I will figure out how much shipping will be. I'll be giving the rest to a guy on Retromags, as it will be pretty easy just to drop them off at his place.

That said, one of my secret hopes is that there is a crazy person in the U.S. who has imported every issue of Edge and wants to get rid of them. If you are that crazy person, please let me know!

I am such a crazy person - I own the whole Edge Magazine collection minus Issue Zero - and for a few years now I have been in the process of scanning my entire collection and turning it into an 'Edge Magazine' database so to speak - a fancy web app with all reviews, previews, Time Extends and so on. The intent is to send this app to Edge Magazine somewhere in the first quarter of 2010 - hopefully, they will then put it online or provide it as a coverdisc of some sort. Looking at the sheer size and scope of the app right now ,it would be crazy for them NOT to do anything with it.

Anyway, I live in The Netherlands, and shipping to the US is so exorbitantly high that it would really be quite crazy for me to send you my entire backcatalogue.

So far I have uploaded/scanned 47 entire issues - beginning with Issue One. You can download these scans from this site:

DOWNLOAD EDGE MAGAZINE ISSUE 1 (1993) TO ISSUE 79 (1999) HERE (47 ISSUES RIGHT NOW)

http://popularsymbolism.com/mitaphane/

Here's what I ask in return - PLEASE can someone scan the Next Generation Magazine issues? As part of my 'Edge Database' project, I also want to include all articles from its US sister magazine, Next Generation. Unfortunately, while I do own ALL Edge issues, I own ZERO Next Generation issues.

So I have been having to make do with the Next Generation scans I have found on these sites:

http://www.retromags.com/forums/index.php?app=downloads&showcat=13

http://www.emuparadise.org/magazine-comic-guide-scans/

Unfortunately, these amount to barely 5 issues - so I am missing out on a large amount of magazines.

So, to summarise:
- If you have any Next Generation issues and you want to share these with me (preferably by scanning them in and putting them somewhere - I can give you FTP upload permits), then PLEASE contact me or PM me.
- If people provide me with Next Generation scans (the entire issue, mind you), I am willing to scan in all the magazines from Edge Magazine.

Sorry for asking something back in return - but I have already been disappointed by several people on the Internet that supposedly had full backcatalogues of Next Generation Magazine yet were not quite willing to scan them in for me (this was after I scanned in a shitload of issues from Edge).

Holy crap, look at all those scans! I have a few issues of Next Generation, but man, I can't promise you scans of entire issues, especially of magazines as thick as these. I'm always open to donating what I have though, I even have a bunch of extra copies I could send to someone who wants to debind them and do it right.

Oh, I also have the entire Steve Jarratt run of Total!, which he did right before Edge. It's not a very good magazine, but it might be of interest to you as an Edge fan.

As for my own scanning needs, I decided against debinding - I realize you're interested in this for the purpose of automation (ie. you can 'feed it' all those debinded pages and you won't have to bother flipping back and forth through the magazine and scanning each page in by hand) - on the flip side your magazine is pretty much destroyed.

Debinding isn't really necessary for the old-style Edge issues anyway, so it suited my needs for the first 87 issues - starting with Issue 87, they switched to some sort of irregular paper size - and videogame reviews have these images that overlap on both pages - it's pretty much impossible to scan these without a gap in the image without debinding. But it isn't such a big deal really.

As for the Next Generation magazines you own - while I would of course really appreciate scans of those issues - it's up to you I suppose. You might even leave out all the ad pages and whatnot - that will save you about 20/30 pages to scan I reckon.

These are the Next-Generation Issues I've already found scanned on the web (IE. THESE ARE NOT NEEDED):

Next Generation Issue 8
Next Generation Issue 9
Next Generation Issue 20
Next Generation Issue 27
Next Generation Issue 31
Next Generation Issue 33
Next Generation Issue 51

These are the ones I own:

4
6
11-37
39-42
46
54
55
(becomes Next Gen)
69-70
77-78
82-84

Also, I wouldn't debind any of my master copies, I was just saying that I'd sacrifice my doubles for the sake of scanning if anyone was up for it. We could also figure out a way for me to just give them to you if you want to cover shipping. I haven't sorted out my doubles yet, but I think I have maybe 20-25.

I really want to help you out but I haaaate scanning, it takes forever and I end up hurting my back from all of the hunching over.

Let's take a look at the shipping costs - how much would a package of (say) 20/10 copies to the Netherlands set me back? You can let me know by PM.

Here's what a previous guy told me - I was in talks with some guy from Wikipedia and the shipping costs basically put me off the whole thing:

Quote:

Shipping Route: Jeffersonville, IN USA to Amsterdam, Netherlands (I didn't know your city so I used the one Netherlands city I know to get a rough estimate)
Package Size: 11 in x 11 in x 5 in (Average sized package to carry between 10-20 issues)
Package Weight: 9 lbs (Average weight between 10-20 issues)
Cost: $140-$200 (Varies based on transit time)

$140-200 for say 10-20 issues is pretty much the reason why I'm looking for people to scan them in and put them up for download - substituting dollars for sweat and tears.

Added three issues:

- Edge Magazine Issue 46 (June 1997)
- Edge Magazine Issue 48 (August 1997)
- Edge Magazine Issue 77 (Autumn 1999)

You can get these (and other issues) here:

- Edge Magazine Issue 38 (November 1996)
- Edge Magazine Issue 40 (Christmas 1996)

This completes Issue 1 to 40 (except for issue 39, which is still missing).

Anyway, hope you guys are getting some use out of this.

I absolutely will, though to be honest I haven't downloaded any of them yet, I've got too much on my plate right now. Is there any danger they'll go away? Should I try to grab them all while I can?

They just pulled all of Retromags.com's content yesterday - apparently they got a Cease and Desist from the hosting site and they had to take all their magazines offline.

So yeah, that danger definitely persists. I'm not even sure setting up a private FTP could get around that - since I would still be using the same hosting site and everything would therefore be bound to their Fair Use guidelines and EULA.

To automate the downloading process, you should get Downthemall for Firefox, go to a specific issue folder and just have it download all the pictures inside that folder. Saves lots of time.
