No, the one you have is Special Championship Edition.
Normal CE was never released. It's even stated in a future EGM that the game got quietly canceled and instead development went into SF2: SCE. Which is really just the Genesis' SF 2 Turbo.
Check the pics, the game looks much worse than the one that came out. |

The Lufia ad was used for a feature about shitty ads. It basically went on this pseudo diatribe on how in a time when JRPGs weren't popular, that advertising the delay of a game was probably the stupidest thing to do. Especially a Genesis port of a really mediocre SNES RPG.
Seeing SF2 CE on Genesis kind of pissed me off as a kid, because it was before Turbo was announced. But then it came out on SNES and all was well.
When I was a huge Ranma fan, I used to have that ad posted on my wall with a note under it that said "RIP". Then I imported the game and was sad that while it had better fighting mechanics than Hard Battle, it was actually slower. I'd still like to come across a proto for it. BTW, Rey, do you mind if I borrow that ad (assuming you scanned it)? I may be doing another panel on weird ass anime games of yesteryear next year. Mine isn't as good a quality. |

Oh shit ! That's Video Kid !
Should be an unreleased Super Famicom game.
Could you do a better/bigger scan of it, please?
What EGM is that from ?
Here the Lufia Ad before the one you posted:

Ichi: Yes of course you can use the ad. I posted them here so people would use them on whatever it is they use them for. I actually encourage you to save them because if they get deleted, I won't be uploading them again.
Celine: Bigger scans are in the link posted on the first post. |

I was surprised that Game Players actually carried a poster for the Genesis version of Lufia back in 1994. It's just the title on a stormy background, but Taito really tried to make something out of nothing. They didn't even use the art from the game's SNES version.
Did any screens of the Genesis game show up? I recall someone talking about a proto, but damned if I remember where. |

Blasphemy!
The gameplay was pretty mediocre, but the writing and music (okay, maybe not all of it) kicked ass. |
