so yeah...this probably went to dreamtr, amirite? anybody get a confirmation on who won it? pretty interesting situation to say the least as you dont exactly come upon that sort of thing every day.

i think the question on everybody's mind is really just 'is the damn box worth ten grand' but i guess its more than that. i'd like to discuss some of the factors that took part in that auction going down the way it did.

From what I hear, it went to this guy named MariosRightNut, who also purchased at least two other complete Stadium Events for well over $10,000 (including one from DreamTR).

Added to watch list to see how insane it goes.
Also watching a FFF pad (that I'm not buying, especially at a starting price of $200), since I have NEVER seen it auctioned.

Dream only sold his box and manual, not his cart.

I know, lol kotaku and all that, but wow:

"I was pretty amazed at the price," Hendricks told Kotaku. "This Stadium Events auction destroys the previous record and I think is a surprise to everyone in game collecting community. I just wish there was such a thing as a sealed Nintendo World Championships Gold.""

This may very well be the most buttery thing I've ever read

I think at the 40,000 price range, this is getting a bit out of hand, myself.

Game collecting will be a real pain in the butt if people think these kind of prices are reasonable for something that's not distinctly one-of-a-kind.

What if it's a fake resealed box and it just has Super Mario Bros inside?

He'd have to open it up to make sure, hmm.

i would have to disagree that a complete, sealed, boxed stadium events with the hangtab is, in fact at this point in time, one of a kind. i think thats what dictated that one going for 41.3. im not disagreeing that its nutty and zany and out of control, but as of now it is one of a kind. time will tell.

The best part is, the machines that originally shrinkwrapped those boxes are still in use today. I could walk about 20 ft from where i'm sitting right now and seal up as many NES games as i'd like. I'm already working with a company to remake the original NES boxes for that Bio Force Ape release, I could have some runoff made for some higher priced titles...

At these prices you'd be crazy not to start making counterfit sealed games. It'd be pretty easy to get away with too, I could just claim I bought out my company's vault with all their sealed one-offs (QA keeps a few copies of everything we make in case they start failing later on)

Demo in the link, along with more details into the game. The sad thing is, I may end up having to create a brand new chiptunes cart in order to debug the sound engine. It works great in an emulator, plays like crap on real hardware.

Ended at $800,200.00! Shocked

What really made me laugh was shipping & handling is only advertised as 1st class mail of $6. Hey for an extra grand could I have it delivered by armored car... Laughing

For something really rare, there sure seem to be an awful lot of these showing up lately.....

My god, who are these people? I thought I'd seen the limits of buttery excess when some idiot from the stevehoffman forums paid 30-odd grand for a Japanese Monkees CD that was digitally identical to the US version, but this one sounds better because it's from Japan! It's like Mickey Dolenz is in the room with you!

but this...

Okay, backstory is needed on the Monkees CD. That's crazy.

Of course the $800,200.00 one didn't go through.... (no surprise there)

New listing says it has now been listed twice and has this message attached....

Yes this is the same one Im trying to sell for the past 2 listing. First auction was won by some childish Joy bidders. Second was removed due to ebay policy violations. Now this item is BUY NOW or best offer only!

So you can now get your copy for a new low price of ONLY $12.5 K!

(there is one other Buy it Now option listed for $40K....)

Just browse around the forums at stevehoffman.tv for a minute, the whole place is full of shit like that. It's a "serious audophile" forum that's prone to having 12-page threads discussing the best-sounding CD version of the Bay City Rollers catalog. The answer is inevitably some Japanese or West German CD that they then drive prices through the roof for. Not to mention the people spending triple-digit sums to buy plain rubber innertubes to place their amps on because they think it makes it sound better, and if your CD player cost less than $10,000, it's not worth plugging in. It's utterly insane. (Oh yeah, and they had a Stadium Events thread wherein everyone laughed their balls off at people paying big money for this. Then they went and bought some 500-dollar Carpenters cds.)

Also, I like the term "joy bidding."
