I am pleased to have another unreleased snes game released on Snes Central. This game is quite incomplete (definitely an alpha). Go to the article to learn more.

I can't believe Rap Jam Vol. 1 was going to have a competitor.

Thanks, Evan! Yeah, it's fascinating, despite the lack of playability. Every game is part of history.

It's actually kinda fun to see some of the goofy things you can do. I moved the player to the right side of the screen, and kept throwing the ball out of bounds, only to see it bounce right back to my "hands", which were hanging limply by my sides while the ball mystically dribbled itself in front of me. Highly amusing.

Evan, I found the information. Here ya go:

> For 'Rap Basketball', what companies were you freelancing for?
OK, RBB was a real cluster-fu*K.

Our original contract was with a company in Tahoe, CA [E*WARE?] who claimed to have a
deal with Motown-Games.
Then he never paid us and vanished into out-of-business.
I contacted Motown a few months later (finally) and they had signed another
deal with someone for RAPJAMS vol.1.
They claimed to not know we were doing the actuall development work.

Then we had a second contract with a publicly traded company. These guys
bounced our 1st check and refused to pay us. I sued them and forced then in
to bankruptcy, then they vanished.
Rough business, these guys really sucked!!

> Did you have any contact with LL Cool J or Ice T's managers?
These guys were totally cool. I talked to them about signing "HOLYJOE Rock
and Roll" as a White Rapper and they were going to bankroll the whole
thing.... it was awesome, I had a bunch of "bitches and hoes" all over
me.... then....

Naw, I'm just kidding. I never met these guys. LAUGHING OUT LOUD.

> Was Rap Jam Vol. 1 planned before Rap Basketball or after?
Developed after and by someone else.
> What made you stop developing Rap Basketball at such an early
> state?
We never got paid :-( IT really sucked.

> Around what year were you developing Rap Basketball?
It was in mid-late 1994 if I remember correctly.

> Did you have the license arrangments made with Nintendo yet?
We would have been all set. We were licensed developers and the publisher
would have been ok.
> Who was your artist at the time?
There were a couple of artist. My brother Charles worked on most of it -
but also a guy from Tahoe did some of the early stuff.

> Who programmed the music? It sounds an awful like a Genesis
> chiptune that was recorded and tracked.
I think we just dropped something in there as a place holder.

> What was your impression about the game? Did you want to program
> it?
At the time we were pretty excited. No one had done a Rapper based game
like this YET.
We wanted to finish it.
> Finally... Why wasn't it finished?
Well, since we never got paid, we had to do something else that would make
us some $. We just could not survive doing stuff for free.
>

There ya go, dude. Update if you want.

Lost Levels Moderators:

Even though this may be a quickly thrown together alpha version of a game that probably wouldn't have made a dime, I think it deserves a bit of publicity. I don't think I deserve any credit (I actually specifically asked Evan not to include my name,) but I think Holy Joe is working a bum deal. The guy makes a game every once in awhile and they hardly sell. The guy is one in a million and he's talented-- Very talented. Bonsai is one of those companies that has no boundaries. They (he) will learn to program any platform and take any chance he can to make a big hit.

What I'm asking is, would it be possible to add Rap Basketball to the news list in order to help Bonsai get a few more hits? I think Holy Joe deserves even more than this, but all I can do in my position is ask you guys.

Do it for Bonsai and history's sake.

As an incentive, I may even be willing to write an article for Lost Levels for an unreleased Sega Genesis game that you are all aware that I have. Another update would be nice, right?

Thanks.

If you've got a story to suggest, get ahold of someone privately to suggest it. Frank is obviously going to be your best bet.

Thanks.
