The Videogame History Museum guys (the same dudes that run CGE) are finally starting to get serious about opening a permanent museum space, hopefully in the Silicon Valley. I have been waiting my entire adult life for someone to organize a proper space, and there is literally no better opportunity POSSIBLE than with these guys. Their collection would be absolutely impossible to replicate, they're well connected, and best of all, they want this to be more than a mere museum: this is a research center too, full of materials both digital and physical. I will basically live here if it happens, and so will my stupidly gigantic library of magazines and other printed material.
What's more important maybe, especially for fans of this site and what we do: this would finally give us a genuine, legitimate home for artifacts to go. There are major collectors out there and people with unique items that are just waiting for a good home to materialize. This would absolutely be the one. These guys know their stuff, they're trusted, they're connected, and they believe in digital preservation as much as we do.
Since the vast majority of my paycheck for this month and next is going to college funding, I'm afraid I can't help out directly-monetarily. HOWEVER I remember you mentioning that you were interested in a bunch of print materials - stuff like old Nintendo Powers, guides, and the like? There's a game store about twenty minutes north of here that has a couple of shelves full of that sort of thing. I've been meaning to get a photo for you so you can figure out if any of it's worth anything to you; I'll see about doing that soon.
