I think it's a real NES game with a Flash emulator, but either way, it's new. The "discovery" story is just for shits and giggles. |

This is pretty cool. It beats my idea for a Brothers Karamazov NES game that's basically a hack of Super Mario Bros. 2 with nothing but ice stages. |

'Fraid not. Although it would have been cool. I was actually going to dig through preloader.swf to see if it loaded an emulator and a ROM, but then I hit the "contact" page which gave a link to the source, which is GPL'd. Looks like it's straight up Flash, definitely a well done NES mimic though. |

The first dead giveaway that this wasn't an original NES game was the fact that it borrowed a music clip from Ninja Gaiden. Still a fun little game though. |

First dead giveaway for me was the fact that a number of background elements aren't lined up in an 8x8 tile grid (the pre-level text and message boxes, for example). A lot of people can't seem to get that right. |

The best tutorial for writing a sound engine for the NES was based off that used by Ninja Gaiden. I would expect to see more homebrew directly ripping off Ninja Gaiden as time goes by. |

The Great Gatsby is pretty fantastic. It's too bad it's not a real ROM, so we could PowerPak it, or at least emulate it in a television-friendly format. |

One of the big giveaways for me (aside from certain performance issues on my ancient computer) was the level three boss. That many sprites on the same line all at once? Ha. :P |
