If it's all right for me to link to it, I want to bring attention to what is brewing over at the ASSEMbler forum. Supposedly, there's a team working on translating one of the beta's (I believe one from the early-to-mid section of 1.5's development.) and releasing it to the public.

They seem to be operating out of a private Facebook profile. If it turns out to be true, they're promising the translated beta as well as its original form. After all fans have gone through, I can't get excited over this. However, if true, it would bring some closure to some of the 1.5 mysteries. Plus, it'll end some of the hype, and, best case scenario, encourage others in possession of beta's to release theirs.

I discovered the thread too after posting my previous reply. Seems like the game uses an entirely different voice cast from the released RE2 (apparently they used local acting agency in Japan with foreign actors like in RE1, as opposed to the Canadian agency used for RE2 and RE3). I won't be holding my breath for a RE1.5 leak anytime soon, but I still wish the people behind the project good luck and I'm hoping everything will turn out right for them.

Wait, are those from the actual prototype or from the fan hack?

Oh, from the fan-hacked prototype, then. =\

Mentioning it somewhere would help clear up any confusion that will inevitably arise.

Anyone following this thread should know a build of 1.5 has been released

Which has been heavily altered by fans, so it's not the real prototype.

It's also apparently an early work-in-progress of their restoration/translation too, so it's buggy as hell and they don't really want people to play it.

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I have a means to play this game even if I wanted to. My modded PS1 is long-dead and my PS3 won't play ripped Playstation games. How decent are the emulators? I confess I don't really pay much attention to post SNES-era emulation.

Well, what they released is the 40 percent build with a few alterations. So it's not like its completely made by the team.... But i see what your saying. I'm happy with this until the full project is done and we get just the raw 40 percent build. I'm not sure why people are so bitter about all of this, on certain RE modding forums, people are losing their mind with negativity, people need to lighten up and enjoy.

As for emulators, i'v been using ePSXe and it works amazing, hell, it makes the game look crisp. Give it a try.

Please don't complain about them not releasing the clean file, which they've said from the beginning will be released alongside their final hack. The only reason something is out now is because someone who had access to their buggy mess WIP builds started trying to sell one.

Exciting developments! I'm sure anyone who has been a longtime fan of Resident Evil will be ecstatic to try this out... all the best to the team with their endeavors.

It seems there was a leak of the original 40% clean build.

Of course this link isn't really the source but it has the most number of mirror links and better/civilized discussion about it.
