IIRC, there was a single byte in Zero Page RAM that if you set it to $80, it'll control NTSC/PAL playback speed for Hebereke/Ufouria.

Ah, yes, here are the GG codes I found way back in 1999 or so, in the "cheats" section of the Ufouria FAQ: Link

I think an NTSC sound hack for Mario Bros Classic would be swell.

Neat code, but the music is still out of tune. Sad

It's really tempting to just copy the English script into the Japanese ROM and be done with it.

In FCEUX, Pal mode is always enabled by default for this rom, to put it back in NTSC speed, Disable PAL mode and continue playing, It's the Emulator, not the ROM.

As for Chris, Thanks for the suggestion, But it is already done!

Yes, I am well aware that this ROM is PAL, and I know how to change the mode in FCEUX. The problem is that Sunsoft raised the pitch of the music to compensate for the lower clock speed of the 2A07, so putting it back into NTSC mode makes everything sound off-key. Try listening to the two versions side by side sometime.

This may sound a little off-topic, but do you guys know how to hack a ROM that's in clone PAL (China) to NTSC? I know about one which is "Xi Tian Qu Jing II" by Waixing, and it crashes when trying to beat the first level...

if that's that Journey to the West II game, I think it's either badly dumped or the mapper isn't emulated properly. PAL Famiclones are just NTSC slowed down.

So hey, I'm doing a thing.

It's pretty much done, I'm just putting the finishing touches on the script with my translator. I hacked things up a bit and gave the script its own 8KB bank (and fixed a stupid programming oversight that limited conversations to 256 characters), so it's not horribly lobotomized like the EU version was.

Very cool! Hebereke's characters spoke in a very... odd way. How are you bringing that across in the English script?

Translator here. (With my very first game translation!)

As far as Hebe goes, I tried to make him a little bit childish, as that's kind of the way he speaks in Japanese. I got rid of his birdie verbal tics (pupipuu) because I couldn't think of a graceful way of implementing them (pyopyo) without making him look like an idiot (pipuroooon).

O-chan speaks very polite and sometimes high-handed Japanese, so I tried to make her sound haughty when applicable. She doesn't get as many opportunities to shine as Sukezaemon and Jennifer, though.

Sukezaemon speaks like a samurai (de gozaru), so he kind of got the Cyan treatment. My personal favorite TL choice is the text for when you lose to him. Mad

Jennifer uses really, really manly pronouns and a rough speaking method, so I kind of went for a split between "mother hen" and "bad motherfucker."

This was a fun little experiment, and we really blazed through it. There's one or two little jokes that I feel extremely proud of, too. >>;

Awesome Translation, This is gonna be a blast once it is done!

I am working on a project with Proveaux over at NA, converting Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle to a NES version of the FDS Roger Rabbit, It is 98% done after the music hack I gave him!

Nice. I've been wanting to see Hebereke in English for years now. Seems like the script is a lot more interesting than Ufouria's, which was pretty bland.

Looks really good, BMF and RahanAkero. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised it's taken this long for someone to take a stab at retranslating the original Japanese version.

I'd consider pitching this to whoever owns the rights to the Sunsoft games, so it can be considered for the inevitable new Virtual Console service for the Wii U. I would buy it on day one.

If I understood correctly what I read about the Wii Virtual Console release, they just used the unmodified PAL version with 50Hz timing but displayed it in 60Hz screen mode, causing jerky scrolling, etc, which really sucks.

This, however, rules.
