I released a Tetris DS prototype today. It's here because this one is one by THQ that went unreleased, as opposed to the (totally different) Nintendo one.

Given how much legal bullshit has surrounded Tetris, I think it's a neat part of history.

The article explains most of the game modes in detail and some other stuff, so give it a read.

Interesting! So this was basically the Tengen Tetris of the DS, where the company thought they had an airtight contract until they didn't and suddenly their game can't exist?

That's a surprisingly apt description, yes, though in this case Nintendo didn't have the rights first. The full details aren't something I know of right now, but that's the gist of it.

Wow, thanks a million for releasing this! It really is another interesting episode in the wacky history of Tetris licenses. Very Happy

From what it sounds like, THQ had the license when they started development, but their license expired in the middle of development. THQ thought they had taken the necessary action to renew it, but it didn't happen.
