Taken from the August 1991 issue of Game Player's Strategy Guide to Nintendo Games, covering FF Legend 2 and FF2us (at this point, the SNES FFIV):

As an added bonus, readers can follow the Final Fantasy storylines in Disney's new Final Fantasy comic book series.

Anyone heard anything of this one even being on the planning boards?

I'm pretty sure someone posted some scans at Sardius' board a while ago...

Yeah, I have an issue of Rescue Rangers with an ad for it. I'm sure someone still has the scan on hand.

What the fuck? It looks almost as bad as Marvel's Double Dragon comic. :?

BTW, I found an old Usenet post by Kurt Busiek explaining what happened to the series (Google is your friend).

o_O holy crap, I'm shocked that ANY artwork exists for this. Thanks guys. One less mystery of life solved for me. Now to see if anything from the actual COMIC still exists.

I wrote reviews for the first two issues for the Double Dragon Dojo, but never bothered doing the rest of the series since it gets pretty worse from there. Like the fact that...

SPOILER Mother-fucking Stan Lee turns to out to be Billy and Jimmy's father (I wish I was making that shit up).

there may not be anything to scan, it might just be a script and some covers.

Here's Busiek's latest e-mail address from usenet.

kurtbusiek@comcast.netherworld

I imagine that's a phony e-mail address to prevent spammer from filling his inbox and that netherworld has to be replaced with .com, but who knows.

That's...not a bad idea. I'm honestly not interested in the least though, how about you other guys with the nice "Lost Levels" graphics next to your face?

It's probably actually comcast.net, seeing as netherworld has "net" at the beginning and comcast.net is an actual site and isp. It could've been real at some point.

Not sure if we're talking about DD or FF here, but if it's FF...

According to Kusiek, two completed issues may actually exist, or at least it's artwork and maybe some scripts (thanks to the scan, I was able to see who worked on it and googled that piece of info up)...

http://www.savagedragon.com/forum/webbbs_config.pl?noframes;read=54964

Looks like you'd wanna go comcast.net for that e-mail addy.

Personally, while this is saturated in early 90's cheese, for 90's cheese, the scan doesn't look too bad at all. Hell, I'm more shocked someone actually WANTED to do an FF comic back then, as this was well before Joe Casualgamers of the world became mindless Squarewhores and everyone thought Sephiroth was "teh gratest bad guyy evvars lawl" (oh yeah, and back when Square actual made video games as opposed to movies). Would definitely be worth a read.

I was speaking of Double Dragon, actually. I don't think that Final Fantasy ever went to print, but that's my opinion.

Heh, a Lost Levels article on the FF comic would be really cool, but I guess someone should contact Wizard or another comic-related magazine for help.

Help, or legal issues? Either way, screw it.

Also, someone interested in comics should write/research the thing, if it is going to be done. Thus, I remove myself from any obligation to do further work on this. Amazing!

I can't believe I never heard of this before...

What about the scan of one page of a FF comic that was never released? (Based on FF1, but the art style was Japanimation not american art like the link that Skrybe posted) - I don't know too much about it besides the scan that I saw somewhere on the net long ago. It's supposed to be official, not those bootleg porn ones that are on auctions sites.

Since I posted a couple of days ago, I've been looking like crazy on the net, trying to find the site where I found the anime-like unreleased FF comic.

I can't find it, so I'll host it but I don't know anything about this comic, so your guesses are as good as mine.

That's probably a "doujinishi," or whatever the proper fanboy term is. Basically they're fan-made mangas, and they seem to be pretty common, in the sense that there's a whole lot of fan-drawn mangas for various series.

But I dunno, that's just a guess.
