Why do NES games make up 99% of video gaming oddities?

Whether it be odd pirate hacks, 5000-in-1 carts, prototypes, or whatever, there's roughly eight hundred times the amount of info on strange NES stuff than there is on anything else.

I know that a lot of factors probably go into it, like later formats being harder to crack and develop for, and companies keeping tighter reins on protos and such, but is any of it because the emulation community focused so obsessively on NES emulation for year after year?

Just wondering~

If you can believe it, I actually remember having a few conversations with people "back in the day" (circa 1998 or so) about how rare it was for NES prototypes of any form to show up compared to other systems.
