Did anyone ever figure out what was up with that strange copy of Illusion of Gaia with "Soul Blazer" on the title screen and slightly modified names? I remember downloading it from the Ballz rom site wayyyyyy back in the day, on the internet, with a computer.

CherryRoms has it up as the (J)apanese release of Illusion of Gaia.....which it most certainly isn't, since that is Gaia Gensouki (which, oddly enough, isn't "protected" by the IDSA). More howdy doody madness? Oh well.

It's a prototype of the game from before Nintendo bought the rights from Enix. Really interesting one too, with the whole rough script in place. When I first downloaded the thing and realized what it was, I proceeded to get quite excited......and then never play all the way through the thing to this day. It's odd how you'll tend to just sit on stuff that would be a holy grail if you didn't already have it. Anyway, the latest GoodSNES and NSRT correctly identify it as being a prototype.

I'm still working on figuring out whether "Shadowrun (beta)" is actually just from the first run of carts. If it is a prototype, it sure as hell isn't from very long before the release.

"Latest" good SNES? Heh, I should keep up with this stuff, neh?

Anyway, wouldn't it be simple enough to dump the script and compare it to the final version?

Also, I didn't think there was a Shadowrun beta...just a mislabeled European version...

Illusion of Gaia is the sequel to Soul Blazer. The first end boss in Soul Blazer is a hidden boss fight in Illusion of Gaia. I know what your talking about because I've seen the early pics of Illusion calling it Soul Blazer 2.

Ehh....

The first community I ever joined was a Terranigma community, so I kind of know that. ^^;

Early screenshots would be nice if you have them, though..

Goddamn Goodtools....

I've been meaning to scan in some old EGM previews for the game. One of their little capsule previews from early on has the game tentatively titled "Gaia Fantasy". I've also got an issue with one of those two page previews from before the Enix>Nintendo switch that calls the characters by their original names, but I've never checked the screenshots to see if they match the released prototype. I do remember the title screen being the same. There's also another version of the original title screen that can be seen in the US instructions. That version ditches the "Soulblazer" and has an added "Licensed to Nintendo" line at the bottom.
