Yeah, so this probably isn't exactly the best place to ask something like this, but I'm gonna go ahead and give it a whirl. I don't really go to many video game forums as it is.

I have a TurboDuo with a somewhat NOT RUNNING cd drive. Now me not knowing jack about system repair, I'm not touching it, but I think it could possibly be fixed.

Now there's only one place I know of that does Turbo/PCE repairs, and that's a little shady site called RetroGames that's linked off of Turbo Zone Direct (a little Turbo-related site that was started right after the Duo's last stand by some guys from TTI thanks to a really bad ad campaign of some sort, I'm sure some of you heard something of that). This place scares me, as I've tried e-mailing these guys a bajillion times and I have yet to recieve a response. I had TZD e-mail these guys. No dice there.

And on top of that, something frightens me about a business that has their website on Geocities...

So yeah, I'm searching for other options. Hell, if I could BUY the specific parts for the system, I can get someone local to repair the thing.

So...suggestions? Anyone know of anyplace that specializes in most CD-based console repair?

Does it just sit there when it's supposed to be loading? If so, try dropping the unit. Seriously. Two seperate times my Duo's cd drive got stuck. The first time I knocked it on the floor by accident and then it worked when I tested it the next day The next time it happened, I knocked in around a bit (as carefully as one can knock something around) and it worked. Dropping it from about a foot up a few times seems to work wonders. I don't know what it is that gets stuck, but it isn't obviously dosen't get stuck too badly.

On a carpeted floor, though, obviously.

No, I'm not joking. This really happens and dropping it really works.

That's EXACTLY what it does.

I was thinking I myself might have killed the laser. I was testing out some burned CDs, and left one loading for about a few minutes while I went to check on something...well...after that, the thing's refused to even SPIN. It just stays on "now loading", as you said.

I'll have to try that tomorrow.

Dude, that's the exact same thing that made mine do that both times. I was actually really skeptical when my little cousin explained that the crappy Valis burn had "broken" the Duo, and figured it was just a coincidence. I think something ends up getting out of whack while the laser is confused and trying to read games that didn't burn correctly. Anyway, yeah. You seriously need to try it now.

O_o;;;;;;;;;;;;;

I'M NOT EVEN GOING TO ASK HOW IT HAPPENED!

It worked.

I gave the system a small thump over the base next to the CD cover, and it WORKED. It dolphinsexing WORKED.

Thanks a million Li. I was starting to sweat having wasted my money. @_@

Sorry if this is a little off topic, but is 'Dolphining' a post done automatically, or manually by an admin?

I think the pic was added by an admin, but I originally typed "Dolphinsexing" to begin with. Just because.
