Assuming that's the same as the Game Gear release, it's not very similar at all. It's also one of the worst games ever.

Since the Game Gear is basically a battery-driven SMS, then yes, it's the same shitty game.

That doesn't mean that the Game Gear release isn't a different game.

No, but a lot of SMS games were just repackaged onto a smaller cart to play on the Game Gear.

Edit:
The GG version is not the same game. It's an even WORSE version of the game. At least in the SMS version you could attack while flying...

Didn't the NES version of "Gremlins 2" have a nice soundtrack? Pretty certain "Fester's quest" did, too.

I know this is kinda late, but I'm sorta stuck in the game. On the second level, I come to a place where it seems like I should start drilling into the ground (Sunman starts to spin around) and a text says "push button!". Wich button am I to push? I've tried banging both the b-button and the a-button, I've tried holding down the "down"-key while doing so, but the only thing that happends is that the hero just spins a bit faster.

Just keep hitting whatever button it was as fast as you can, he'll start drilling after a little while.

How long is that? Several minutes? 'Cause that's how long I've been desperately banging the button as fast as I can now, and still nothing happens.

Is it the emulator? I'm using Nesticle...

Set up a strobe light directly in front of your face. Tape your finger to the button. Flick the strobe light on. The rest should be history.

Freddie,

First things first. Get rid of nesticle. It was good back in 1997, but look for some of the newer ones, like FCEultra. Better sound, better compatibility, more features, and no stupid bloody hand. That might help.

FCE Ultra also lets you assign one of the buttons to turbo. That should help a lot.

I have reason to believe that Sunman was developed by EIM, Kenji Eno's company before Warp. The article already mentions Eno overseeing development (as planner & director). But not only that, one of the programmers was later a programmer on D.

According to SIT Developer Table, EIM also developed Wanpaku Kokkun no Gourment World/Panic Restaurant (FC/NES), Time Zone (FC), and Ultraman Club 2: Kaettekita Ultraman Club (FC).

Hey, now, I hadn't considered that. Thanks for the heads up, I'll look into it if I ever have a chance.

The back of the SMS box just says that the Storyboard is © Sunsoft, and that the coding for this version was © Virgin Games. So, I guess it's loosely based on the same plot, maybe sorta? Perhaps?

Here's something interesting and finally not necessarily Kenji Eno/EIM-related. GMCL (Game Music Composer List) has Hirohiko Takayama (the sound guy on "Sunman") down for the FC and GB versions of "Superman."

Code:
FC/GB スーパーマン

The FC version is presumably "Sunman." But was Sunsoft planning to release a similar game for the Game Boy? The mind reels. Or not.

Kenji Eno talks about Sunman, EIM, and MANY other things in a new EGM/1UP interview:
http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=0&cId=3169166

Quote:
1UP: It's hard to determine which games you actually worked on in your early career. Did you work on Sunsoft's Batman for the NES?

KE: No, no, no.... I worked on an unreleased Superman game, not Batman. Originally, I was working on Superman. But the licensors were like, "Superman can't die. Superman can't be damaged." Therefore, it didn't work out as a game because--

1UP: He was too strong.

KE: Yeah, too strong, so it got cancelled. Then Sunsoft asked us to make a game with a superhero called Sun Man. So I was working on that, but we didn't finish the game. They canceled it before it was finished. I thought that the project was gone for good, but it seems that you can see it on YouTube.

1UP: Actually, we've played a seemingly finished ROM image of Sun Man that was reportedly done entirely by you.

KE: Released?

1UP: Unreleased. But we've played it, so it's somewhere out there on the Internet.

KE: I hadn't heard about this until now, but I would like to know where it is, and who leaked it on the Internet. [Laughs]
