Hi, folks. I came across some juicy pics of the ORIGINAL Batman game on the PC-Engine before it was scrapped and the okayish maze game version was put out instead.
Enjoy: http://disgruntleddesigner.com/chrisc/secrets10.html |

I second that. That looks like a very interesting proto, even if its an early build with possibly no enemies. Batman's sprite looks pretty cool in that version. |

Man somebody make a watermarking joke here. There's no way this game could have not been better than the one that was released. |

More proof that Sunsoft/Sun Corp liked to deny the world nice things...
Of course, now I'm developing a hypothesis that the Batman game that came to be for PCE might have been one of those games that just "gained" a licence... if only for the fact that it's nothing like the way a Batman game should play. |

It most certainly did. Batman on the PCE, although not a bad game, was already done with Cratermaze/Doraemon on the same system. Pick up numbered items, kill/avoid enemies, reach the exit. Very familiar stuff. |

The big "WHOOOSH!" on the magazine scan makes me want it more. Because that's the noise Batman makes. |

Oddly enough, this game reminds me of the Batman game released for the NES. I guess it would make sense since they were done by the same company.
Good find... |
