Here's a tradition that will die a quick, horrible death: random website discussions! I paste a website, we discuss. And make the funny.
Today's website: The Arby's Merchandise Website.
"Begin shopping by using the drop-down list box located at the top right of your screen to navigate through the categories and products we offer," the site says, seeming to promise a wide assortment of categories and products.
It's not surprising. After all, the Tabasco Country Store has something like 500 items in its catalog based on HOT SAUCE. The Arby's store has nearly forty years of restaurant history to work with. Categories ahoy!
Oh.
Apparently, Arby's has a trademark on "oven mitt."
Oven Mittâ„¢ and Oven Mittâ„¢ design are Trademarks of Arby's IP Holder Trust.
And apparently they're using it to name this mascot...thing, which I've never seen in my life.
I don't know. I'm kind of disappointed. I mean, I can't even get a coffee mug with their logo on it. Thoughts? |

If you haven't seen Oven Mitt, you must watch even less TV than I do. And I only watch one show :( |

I've never seen that either. But to be fair, we don't have tons of Arby's down here. We used to, but then people realized that there was better food avaiable. Like Taco Bell. Or Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers. Or Bud's Broiler. MMMMMMM. No. 4, smoke sauce, no onions. Respect it. |

That Arby's oven mitt guy has showed up in a bunch of commercials.
He seems to be a rip off of the Hamburger Helper hand mascot. |

After seeing your tv first-hand, I can understand why. |

That really sucks. If you like Arby's, you want something that says Arby's,not something with The Gay Glove™ all over it. Yes, the Oven Mitt is gay. Don't ask how I know. I know, and my friends know. We're sure of it.
Seriously though, it's a stupid marketing decision on Arby's part. They probably won't keep the mascot for more than a couple of years. Once they change advertising campaigns, the Oven Mitt merch will instantly look outdated. Instead of creating something that their customers can proudly keep around and enjoy, they've made crap destined for the 50c price tag at the flea market in about 5-10 years. And yes, I know you'd have to REALLY like Arby's to be that spastic over their schwag. Apparently TheRedEye and I are the only two who love our roast beef. Mmmmm...Beef 'n Cheddar...

After posting this thread, I had Arby's for lunch. And a new question crossed my mind.
What the fuck is "red ranch?"
Anyone know? The Internet fails me. |

Man...Arby's used to be all about "satisfying your grown-up tastes," shunning the kid-friendly atmospheres of other fast-food restaurants, and now they've resorted to using a cartoony mascot. Do I sense hypocrisy?

Totally taking a wild guess here, but maybe it's made from a tomato base, instead of whatever they use to make regular ranch? Think "red chowder"... |

We have no Arby's in California.
Imagine my surprise when I went to Tennessee and the bus stopped at a random location in Texas... at one of these restaurants. I had the single best-tasting chicken sandwich ever at one of them.
Anyway.
When I entered, I saw that... thing. It creeped me out. It also creeped me out that they had a kids meal with toys of that thing in it. When I got to Tennessee, I saw the ads, and understood the evilness that is Oven Mitt [tm].
And I'm now signed up here. Your furriness quota is now fulfilled. |

Can't say that I'm a furry, since "Kid Fenris" is just something I devised when I set up my first e-mail account some seven years ago. It's a dumb name, but it stuck.
If I had known anything at all about furries back then, I'd have chosen a title less likely to be misinterpreted, like "Scritchy McYifflepants."
As for the guessing game, I'll go with Gibby and Wonderbutt. Filthy fursuiters, they must be. |
