Is there any hope a prototype for the Apextreme will turn up? The Apextreme was a very ambitious project that hoped to create a completely reliable gaming computer that would never malfunction. |

Apex was just one of infinitely possible manufacturers for that thing, the console is actually DISCover's. http://www.discoverconsole.com
There's an Alienware version if you really really want one. PROTIP: You don't really want one. |

Actually I am aware that other manufactuers worked with DISC to make computers with DISC's drop and play technology. I do know that Alienware made their own DISCover console. However I was very interested in the more affordable DISCover console. I was saving up to buy one until reliable sources told me that the console was shelved. I bought a new labtop instead afterwards. I am still hopeful that maybe an insider will let us in on a prototype for this console. |

I think the value of a prototype ApeXtreme as a collectible would be a hell of a lot more than building your own high-end PC with TV out, or buying the Alienware version. I'm at CES right now, I guess I can see if DISCover is displaying if you're that interested. |

I was convinced this was another reference to Butter Farce Ape. |

Sure I would interested if Apex or DISC lets you in on anything. Now that the Apextreme has been cancelled it's actually really fascinating! |

I didn't ask because I realized I didn't care. I did talk to the guy who produced that "hong kong original" contra game though. |

Yeah, seriously. I have his card, it's in Chinese. He sells really cheap plug and play units. |

Lame. Apextreme had so much potential. It's sad to see it go. |

Seeing as no manufacturer beyond Alienware picked it up, no, I don't think it had much potential. I would imagine Apex's research is more reliable than Lost Levels Forum User's Daniel_BMS' intuition. No one likes losing money. |

The Apextreme would have made money, but it wouldn't have made enough money to make it worth the effort for such a big company that makes a killing off of the $30 DVD player. It would be great for a project like this to go underground for awhile and then call back. |
