I dunno about the NP article, but I got this from the old Grand NES Central website.
It is a scan of a 1991 article from NP about the "upcoming" Sim City.

I am wondering that if Nintendo did indeed find this prototype, that it may be offered on their Wii download thingie, but that is about as possible as some fat texan eating yogurt and fruit for breakfast.

I'm wondering, is their any other media for the NES ver of Sim City then the above picture? I loved the one on SNES back in the day, and I would assume at least some of the ideas used in it (Bowser for the monster, the mario themed statue, etc.) were taken from this version.

There's little info on it on NESWorld, it comes for the Nintendo Power also.

Quote:
SimCity was actually planned for release on the NES. Nintendo ofcourse knew how popular SimCity was back then and because they had just launched their Super Nintendo System, they needed some great titles to make it sell. So my guess is that they terminated the NES version and refitted it for the SNES. What a shame, it would've been a cool title to end the NES era with. One or more betas must exist in a box somewhere, all we can hope for is that someone is able to them(it).

Also if you follow this link and scroll down you see an alphabet of letters, click on S and you find unreleased games starting with an S, Sim City is there also and there are more pics. About 7 of them and again some text info.

I remember reading up on NES SimCity back in the day. If I remember correctly, it was apparently supposed to have a near-simultaneous launch alongside the SNES version. Even as a kid, I thought that was really weird.

Wasn't the SNES SimCity a launch title?

Don't think so. It came out in Japan way after launch, in 1991, but before US's 1991 launch of the system. As far as I know though, the only launch titles in the US were Super Mario World, Pilot Wings, and F-Zero...

In the US it was either a launch title or near-launch. I remember renting it sometime before New Year's that year when the SNES came out (I got one for Christmas).

I did have it, under "Super Turrican". Never tried it but just did.
Not bad, not bad at all. Would have loved to have played it here in the USA. Darned europeans, they get everything.

I remember my friend telling me there were 6 games at launch.
SMW, F-Zero, PilotWings, can't remember, Final Fight, and Gradius 3.
Though I'm thinking "can't remember" could have been SimCity.
I remember it was on the original SNES box, along with Super Play Action Football and Zelda "Coming Soon".

Sim City was released in August of 91. VGR it. And correct any mistakes that are there, too.

Sounds about right, and I definitely remember it being on the SNES box, but...

I definitely remember playing this very shortly after the SNES was released.

I'm pretty sure it was; it was the second SNES game I ever played.

I'm almost positive that UN Squadron was also launch. Populous may have been as well.

No way nes could do sim city, how would it handle all the city calcs, etc.

A nice though, I wish they would make this for DS ASAP!

Umm. I'd bet that it's sitting complete somewhere at HQ. I'd bet that just about everyone else in this thread thinks the same thing.
