|
|
Ive finally admitted financial defeat when it comes to pc/engine hardware and software as prohibitive price (for a duo anyway) and pal tv issues make it a bit impractical for me to get a machine thatll play all regions of software.
Does anyone know of a decent free tg16 emu? i dont really like the idea of paying magic engine any money when (1) its not really their product to sell in the first place and (2) id rather save the money up for an actual console eventually then pay for an emulator. |

HU-GO is probably the best free solution.
Grab it here: http://www.zeograd.com/ |

mednafen's about on par with magic engine, unless you (like me) can't stand emulators without a gui.
oh yeah, and ootake's supposed to be really good too, though I haven't tried it. |

Not a burn at all.
Not even a flame.
More like a pilot light in some rusty boiler from 1989.
Intelligent [original] jokes, please. |

i say yes... but actaully most of the games i want to emulate are actually turbo cd games... but there are loads of quality games on the regular turbo grafx 16, any console that gives both sega and nintendo a headache (at least in japan...) is always gonna be home to some cool games. |

Hugo is an awful mess. Everything from his coding to his interface spells yuck.
Much better is the simple Yame. It is discontinued, and free. It plays HU Card and CD games, some that even Magic Engine cannot play. Yame plays SNES and NES games as well.
For Mac, I suggest TGEmu. This is also abandoned, and has no save states.
But it is simple and very compatible. No CD game work though.

With Yame, you mount the CD or image of the CD in Daemon, Diskjuggler, Alcohol 120% etc. In the TG-16 options area, point to the real or emulated CD drive you have loaded the game in.
Then, load one of the Turbo Duo BIOS/Boot Rom/Card whatever they are via the File->Open menu (Like loading a SNES or NES rom) and the game should start.
I wish they kept this thing going. |

I didn't work on Magic Engine, I just don't want to promote the piracy of ANY supported software on my forums. If you can still buy it, don't talk about stealing it here. |

I certainly don't agree with how they do things, but i'll fight for their right to do it as they see fit...
Besides, it's not as if they're the only game in town. |

Software in general. Pirating actively developed and sold software is very bad juju.
The fact of the matter is ANY actively developed commercial software has the same legal rights and protections as a copy of Windows or Photoshop or whatever. Helping each other pirate shit on our forums is just going to get us sued and, for many of us, in trouble on a professional level.
And, hey, the Magic Engine people don't HAVE to own any rights regarding developing emulation software - ANYBODY can legally write some. The way you're whining about it, either 1) there would be no non-underground emulation because it would all be illegal or 2) you would have to pay for EVERYTHING because it would ALL have to be licensed with system manufacturers and/or game publishers. Fuck that.
What can all these tg16 emulators do that mednafen can't do anyway? It isn't exactly difficult to use, the command line isn't exactly the boogie man. And it's free, jesus christ. |

and if you really want magic engine, last time I checked if you don't pay you simply have to save and quit every 5 minutes...
since save/load feature was quite robust I never had any problem.
of course, now I use mednafen for my pce needs |

I really don't even bother with the command line. The way I had it set up was to just have all HuCard ROHM files associated with Mednafen. Double click a ROHM, blam, Mednafen runs it.
And honestly, it's just as good if not better than Magic Engine. |
