Recently posted on Kotaku, someone scanned and uploaded the entire 1st issue of EGM... but what really caught my attention so far was a screenshot of Strider on the NES, which more closely resembled the arcade game instead of the version that was eventually released.

I'm sure there's more of these sorta things in there, but that was the first one I came across.

So am I interpreting this correctly? Maybe 3 or 4 times throughout the issue, they say, "So along with the Genesis and Super Famicom, there's this Konix/Epyx 16-bit home system in the works. It's gonna suck!", but at the very-very end of the issue they say, "Oh, and this just in, all of what we previously wrote was wrong. The Epyx system is actually handheld, and it's the Lynx. It's gonna suck!"

I believe so, yeah... But what really interested me was that shot of Strider that didn't resemble the NES release at all... I did hear the released one was based on a comic book that came out in Japan, though.

It looks like research wasn't done well enough here. This isn't the 1st issue, is it? Near the end of the mag, it says "Strap yourself in for the next invasion as the third issue of EGM hits the stands April 22, 1989!" Plus there was a letters section, referring to (what I assume is) the first issue. This is just the first of an annual buyers guide, which for the first few years did count as a numbered issue.

Anyway, the pic for strider looks exactly like the NES version we got. Play it sometime. That's the Africa stage.

I was interested that they had a section for the "upcoming" 16-bit systems, including a prototype of the Super Famicom. I am going to collect these prototype pictures and make a page out of them on my site once I relaunch.

That's always thrown me off too. Everybody always says it's issue 1, but the mag contents didn't seem to match.
