Hey everyone, after seeing the other post where a guy found a game he was describing i have decided to do the same =D
From what i remember, it was a top down adventure zombie style game based in a graveyard with buildings you needed keys to enter. I think you get keys and shoot something??? sorry its a little vague... At first i thought it was an NES game, but iv played almost every nes game and am yet to see it. As a kid, i didnt play much Sega, so its probably NES or SNES.

sorry for the late reply guys, been busy with work! turns out it was zombies 2!!! i cant believe i forgot that game even existed when we lost our first snes! not nearly as fun as i remembered it tho... 
thanks soo much everyone~ my first thought was pacman too  |
