I am absolutely not done with this story, but I'm still proud of what I was able to dig up, so here you are.
From here, I plan to get some dirt on the Edge 16, and perhaps some other failed modems (the old Sega Genesis one comes to mind). |

For those who read the article when it was first put up, I just added three more pictures, courtesy of Keith Rupp himself. |

Great work on scoring such a story! Really unfortunate when titans slay the challengers. If ROM images ever get released there will be something fun for emulator authors to play with. REAL network based Nintendo games.
Keep it up! |

I got those back in college, quite by accident.
No donut for you. |

Just a little nitpick - the modem speeds you listed were very likely "bits per second" (or "baud"), not "kilobits per second" (2400kbps is faster than what most cable modems download at). |

So a correction would be 2400 baud? |

Yup... RANDOM FACTOID FOR RANDOM GOODNESS: my very first modem was 2400bps. It was also circa 1994. |

I remember long ago, when the dinosaurs roame..yadda yadda... anyway, I think the Genesis had been out in North America for only 2 years. Here in Canada, there was a commercial I only remember seeing once, about a type of cartridge you plugged into the Genesis and it hooked up to cable, as in cable tv cable. They'd had to be digital at that point and I have no idea when digital cable began. Anyway, supposedly 300 titles were planned to be played via this cable modem/cart thing.
Not long after the commercial I was watching a show about electronics and videogaming. It was on peasant vision and I can't remember what the show was called, nor do I care. They had a short feature about this cable-cart, and also pretty much advertised the thing. So far there were subscribers in Ontario and Quebec using it, and it would be shortly available via cable in western Canada soon. Ever since then, never heard anything about it, not even from Genesis freaks who were more into Sega and Sonic than I was.
What do you guys think about this? To be honest this IS from memory, and though unless I got an electric shock to the brain at the time and saw visions of video gaming bliss, I'm sure this thing existed. |

Sega Channel?
You could play 50 games a month a server at the cable company, and there was probably other stuff...but since I haven't owned a Genesis, I have no personal experience with it. |

It could've been the X-Band modem.
I think I have some Mexican advertisements for the thing. O_o |
